They're concerned about people cheating in longer time formats. And because cheating is so available online its more of concern

The FAQ explains it some but the US Chess Federation does not allow online regular rated play, which those time controls are.
They might allow it it in situations were players at every site have certified TDs/proxies watching but not for a regular online tourney as we have here.
