Starting up a Group

Well, if I'm going to start this group, I feel I should take some responsibility to make it a worthwhile place.

Anyone have a good free image we could use for the Group Icon?  If you have artistic ability (I don't) perhaps a drawing would be good.

I'd like to post items of interest to Chess Players in the Dayton area.  News and upcoming events at the Dayton Chess Club.  The Dayton Chess Club is a great place to visit and encourage membership.

There are some other public places that people meet to play chess and there's a fair amount of scholastic activity locally and I'd like to promote those also.

Maybe we could have a meetup, possibly at DCC.  We'd need more than 3 people, though.

Tell your chess-playing friends about chess.com and our group.  We need to get to critical mass to get any advantage from this.

I'm pretty new to chess.com, so don't have a good sense of who's out there... I'll recommend the group to the one guy I do know ...

I'm playing a game with a guy that grew up in Dayton but he doesn't live here any more. He does return for a visit ocassionally.

The guy from Dayton who no longer lives here is more than welcome in this group.

If either or both of you want to be admins here, I could set you up, I think (actually never did this, but I think that's one of my powers).

Well... It's been some time since we started this group and we haven't done much with it.

We've had our first new member in some time,  JohnDeriLLL!  All Welcome JohnDeriLLL!

There's a Chess tournament down at the DCC this weekend.   I'm thinking of playing.  If people want to have a meetup, that might be a fun first activity.

As I've said elsewhere, the DCC (Dayton Chess Club) is an excellent club and I would like this group to be complementary to the DCC and the other opportunities to play in the area.  I know of several other places in the Dayton area where people regularly get together to play, also, and those deserve support and highlight.

is any one still here? do u guys play the cincinnati chess club?

jordanh

I'm still here.  Nothing much going on here, though.   I tried to get some vote chess going, challenged a bunch of groups but I got no takers.  I challenged community groups with that weren't too large.  There are often open challenges against mega-groups, but I didn't think that'd be much fun.

I thought about having a meetup for our group last June 25th when chess.com had their meetup day, but I didn't.

I've never been to the Cincinnati club, but I hear it's a great place.

Hi all.

Joined the club about a month ago I want to say. I sent a couple friend requests out. Hoping to connect with some people and learn a thing or two.

I've been playing for about a year now, taking the game relatively serious (as in playing daily) since January. Feel free to reach out to me on here if you'd like to play some games/study together.

Thanks!

I'm still in Dayton Ohio, I just don't have rides

Sorry this group isn't more active. I neglect it. If anyone wants to help manage, message me and we'll look into it.

In the meantime, check out the Dayton Chess Society Meetups at Panera Bread, one coming up this Sunday. https://www.meetup.com/dayton-chess-meetup-group/

There's an active group in Springfield and I hope we'll have more going on locally soon.
