Suggestion: Adding Tamerlane chess to historic variants

I don't see many people playing historic variants but wouldn't a variant as complex as Tamerlane chess be quite the attraction? Of course, it's easier said than done as it would take a lot of coding effort but what do you all think about adding this variant?

I like the idea

There’s little promotion of the historic listings most don’t even know they’re here

If there was more promotion this might change. Besides, at least some popular chess youtubers tried Shatranj sometimes.

I don't like some traditional chess variants, to be honest. Most of them are just unplayable for modern people, especially those who use trash pieces like the Elephant (not to be confused with the chancellor or the 'Russian' name of the bishop), or the Ferz.
I still don't know why they added them to the 4PC server.

Yeah, alfil, dabbaba, and ferz are pretty much trash pieces.  I like alibaba though, also lion, giraffe, gryphon and unicornio from Grant acedrex.

I like tamerlane, it's fun.  Despite the lack of queen and bishops.  Much more fun than shatranj.

It is at the end a question of personal taste, which one need to respect, of course...but to say so conclusevely that historic regional chess is mostly unplayable to modern people or that they have trash pieces...that is a load of misunderstanding involved. Believe me, elephant or ferz are not trash pieces. You dont know how to use them properly...and as put it here before...most people dont even know those variants are here...or exist. It is all about FIDE chess, but the history is huge...

I like 2 books about it. I recommend for anyone interest in this subject.

A History of Chess, H. J. R. Murray

A World of Chess: Its Development and Variations through Centuries and Civilizations by Jean-Louis Cazaux, Rick Knowlton

I personally find very complex, strategic and fun, on its own way, the regional variants such as Makruk and Shatranj...althogh I am very far from an expert about chess in general...but I have found myself dedicating more of my time on them, instead of modern orthodox chess...there is something hooking me up of those historic variants...

If anyone is interested, even just out of curiosity, to understand a little bit more and or have a chance to try them out against players and bots, I suggest 3 nice websites:

Lobby • PyChess

Xiangqi - Play Chinese Chess Online - Xiangqi.com

lishogi.org • Shogi Online Gratuito

For Shatranj specifically, I have discovered a fantastic youtube channel from a chess player with a lot of knowledge on it...it is as much of a history class as a chess lecture...very fun.

I didn't want to say, that they are all unplayable. Just some of them, and a good example to prove it is chaturanga - in my opinion, it is just not for modern players. Of course, it can be played without any difficulties, but the soul of such games and positions is just a little bit outdated.
I can agree that these pieces can be used in much better conditions for them, but in this case, they are just not for four-player chess and games on large boards.

Fair enough! Different point of views. For my taste, four-player chess and bigger boards are not for me...I might try them again more in the future.  Cheers

I tried to recreate tamerlane chess as much as I could on variant-test. Of course, such things as the giraffes, individual pawns, thalias instead of bishops and citadels are not a thing here. However, this might give people a vague idea how it's played I think.

Wannabe Tamerlane chess replicated as close as possible if someone would like to try on variant-test.
