The new rules (https://www.chess.com/news/view/official-nspdcl-rules-replaces-old-rules) are better and address most of my concerns.  A few issues, though:

1. I wouldn't completely eliminate the rating requirement for a returning team.  I would relax it, but if you eliminate it, a team that finds and recruits a couple young and rapidly-improving kids will be able to completely dominate in a few years.  If the rating limit is relaxed but not eliminated, they can play together for a time, but eventually they'll get too strong and have to form new teams.

2. I wouldn't adjudicate any games on the Termination Date unless you can adjudicate ALL remaining games, or at least enough games to determine playoff qualification.

3. I would not rely solely on engine evaluations for adjudication purposes.  A +5 position might usually be a clear win, but in a complex position, that's not always the case.  Also factor in the strength of the players involved; a clear win for a 2000-rated player might not be so clear for a 900-rated player.  It would be good to have a strong and experienced player involved in adjudications.

4. I would not determine the playoff schedule in advance.  You might be able to start it in early August, but you might not be able to start until October or later if key games are still ongoing and have not reached a position that can be adjudicated.  I would wait to announce the playoff schedule until you can actually start the playoffs.  And again, I'd space the start of the games out by 1 month like in the regular season, even if that means the last round doesn't start until after the second season begins in 2021.

OK....

1. We discussed that, yes. We may change it

3. We won't. We'll get like all the admins in on it and look at it with SF and stuff, take all of that into account and make the best possible decision....

4. IG that's right, but, if the last regular season games start in March, then they should be mostly completed by July/August.....at least hopefully.

Yeah, there's a good chance you can start August 1st, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of starting either July 1st or late September.

So how many games will we be playing at a time? I already have 12 going so I'm just wondering.

Also the sheets "TP D1" "TP D2" "TP D3" and "TP D4" to see the full team names and how they're doing in their matches

TP = 'Team Pairings'

PP = 'Player Pairings'

Subs should be required to be in place before the pairings are announced.  Finding a sub after pairings are announced introduces chaos that affects the other team and reduces the probability of getting all matches started.

We delay the end time by a few days, so it should end up fine for now. But we'll certainly tweak for next season

Avatar of jaredjm

yes, yes, we know Glease, sorry

It wouldn't be fair to put a new rule in place for the current round at this point, just for future rounds and especially future seasons.

Of course

I don't think any teams are looking for subs, but I'll let you know if they need one.
