oh no!
tell them that they should really reconsider their ghast decision!
This is not entirely true, 4pc/variants server will be completely removed to speed up the main site, which cannot cope with the load in last time. This decision was also due to a lot of negative feedback about the work of the 4pc server, with a constant stream of reports about problems with the connection and flow of criticism related to changes in the standards of some games. The management decided to cut out this cancer of chess.com and freeze the project until further better funding until 2024.
So...4 player chess thing will only work if it's on a different server (like it was pre-merge) we just need some "funding" in order this to work/happen which this website doesn't want to spend anything on a "failed project" hmmm...I wonder why is it a failed project. Maybe because ppl are not interested? failed promotion of 4 player chess? regular chess streamers don't care? Why would I need regular chess streamers to play 4pc? They show 0 interest and those streams are not even watchable, I mean 90% of them except hammer cuz he genuinely played and explored the game. Well they'll lose a huge player pool because this exact variant was bringing huge amount of players because no other website had such thing. Hopefully someone will create 4pc app so I play this wonderful game again.
This is amazing news! The admins have also disclosed additional information to me. They noted that incidents of teaming in the 4PC FFA games (especially in the Chaturaji variant) have risen 55% in the past month. Also, server connection problems will be completely eliminated because there will be no server to connect to!
the main distinguishment between chess.com and any other chess website was 4pc. now I may as well play for free without ads on lichess.
Without 4pc I will not play on chess.com. I'm hoping this is an April Fools' joke. If not, please reconsider.
I only play chess.com for variants because I use lichess and I think this april fools joke. see the wording
This has to be a April Fools joke 100%. If it's not than all the players at 4pc are going to face a death. 4pc was more interesting than 2pc as it had many openings and tactical plays. Without 4pc there is no meaning to play chess.
On May 16, all support for chess.com/variants will be ended. I have been notified of this by the admin team and they are working on making an official announcement.
After the server support is ended, all 40 million games will be deleted. Chess.con says that this will free up over 2 terabytes of data and help the site run faster… but I think it’s time to move to the “L” website…
So, can they make a downloadable archive of high-rated games for those who want to study or make some engines?

No, as previously mentioned, they are permanently deleting all 40 million games to free up storage space.

Ok, now I see that
1. Number of games is 40.000.000 while every game weights about 2kB (which makes 80 GB)
2. While the data is 2 terabytes

You do realize this is an April Fools joke, right? You're just being hypothetical?
