Is this club still active?  I'm in syracuse now, and I'm terrible, but I'd like to improve.

I heard there was a club that meets the local mall, but I don't think it is organized. I have been for a club for a long time. Unfortunately, I don't think I am up to organizing one myself.

Good luck on your scholarship. If you do come out this way I would love to meet up for a game sometime.

Supposedly they meet at the mall on Mondays, in the food court. there is also a tournament every third sunday at the bottom of an apartment complex, and each friday at the B&N on Erie Blvd, at around 4 or 5 (though I think they stopped meeting for the winter).

They have a smaller store there now. The main store moved back to its original location next to Spaghetti Warehouse. I used to frequent there often, but never for chess. The name of the store is "Play the Game, read the story.

Not really. Once in a while you might see one or two games going in the food court. Mostly old-timers who play by themselves.

So, is there any place to play chess in Syracuse? Does that still go on at Barnes and Noble on fridays or no?

Avatar of Paul_G

unfortunately, not that I know of.  I think they play Monday evenings in Chenango and that is probably the closest if you are looking for the regular game.  I am always interested in some live games.  Feel free to message me privately and maybe we can get together sometime.  Also to maybe start up a proper just club if I get enough people interested.

Will be living in the Syracuse area for the forseeable future starting this summer, have any of you found any chess meetups since the last post?

If anyone wants to meet up, I'll be in Syracuse for a few months and would love to play.  I'm guessing I'm around a 1400/1500 ELO level.

I'm not absolutely sure.  I've only been once.  I kind of stumbled upon it when I was at the mall.

Is there any regular meetups around Syracuse for playing chess?

Avatar of Paul_G

I know that some of the libraries have meetups once a week or every other week. I am not sure of the schedule. I know Baldwinsville does on Thursday evenings I believe. I'm sure you could call whichever library is closest to you to find out more. Besides that, there Are no regularly organized meetings that I know of. I wish Syracuse did have an official club that was organized.
