Respectfully, # 2 doesnt have "numerous endings" with the scenario given... it just has a better ending than given. for 1) Whites best move is 9. e8=Q+ and no matter where black's king moves, it leads to 10.Qh8#   2nd) 9.e8=R works just as well, because again, no matter how black moves, 10.Rh8# follows.
