Do you good people ever play Tactics Trainer puzzles here on chess.com ?

http://www.chess.com/tactics/

For most people it is a good tool to help you improve. If you are a free membership person you can play 3 TT puzzles every day. If you are a Gold member, you get 25 per day and if you are Platinum or Diamond you can play unlimited number of puzzles per day.

I usually play about 8 - 15 a day. About a year ago I got kinda crazy with it and was playing 30-40 a day.

It is a lot of fun, but be warned - if you play as rated (where every one affects your TT score) you can lost points for being too slow even if you get it right. Surprised When chess.com goes to V3 they are going to change it so that you don't lost points if you get it right even if your are slow, but for now you have to suffer through that.

Any commnets? Any big-time TT players here?

I can tell lots of TT stories if anyone cares...Wink

I used to do them but the timer somewhat gave me an unpleasant pressure like I would solve a puzzel in 2 minutes and still get minus points. I am stuck on an average 2060 now.

I am stuck around 1450 !

It is very annoying when you solve the puzzle and lose points. Frown But that will be fixed in V3.

Another annoying thing will, as far as I know, not be fixed in V3 - the low pass rate puzzles. There are some active puzzles that have a pass rate less than 20%, some even less than 10%. Surprised  Now that is a pain also; you are working hard to get your score up and you come up on a puzzle with a pass rate of 32% and then the next one has a pass rate of 8%. As far as I know, that will not be corrected in V3. Frown

I've been few months grinding between 1450-1550 and now days its 5 free puzzles for free members. I've also done tactics puzzles with phone apps and I really think they help to find those same patterns in your games

I play Tactics Trainer but only get 25 problems a day- it's still much better than the three I got when I was a free member! I use chesstempo (which has a harsher rating system) a lot for more tactics and try to get 20 more tactics correct than incorrect on chesstempo as preparation for playing Live Chess that day.

I am not sure how that could be an issue. If members fail a problem more frequently than they pass it, that problem's rating should increase so that higher-rated people will attempt it.

A_G_A you are guilty of logical thinking in a situation that is not logical. The actual math is complicated, but puzzles are rated on how many people get the first move or two moves correct. If a puzzle - and many do - have a real weird move on move 3 or 4, most people (90%) will fail to get the correct answer but because so many people got thefirst move right, the rating stays low.

I have seen many many puzzles below 10% pass rate and the rating stays low. I have seen numerous puzzles with a pass rate less that 5%.

Yes i play alot of UNRATED TT GAMES...for practice...until i am confident with TT problems 200 problems ABOVE my rating I dont try to raise it...I am patient and sometimes test my new nd recent chess abilities. Your right though about taking too long on a TT problem....even if you solve it they PENALIZE you. NOT FAIR.

chess.com has promised that with new version 3 (the call it v3) you won't lose any points as long as you get it right.

that would make me much more brave with a rated TT problem.  Thank you again! You are good people.
