TCC-38 Round 3 Games
Lucan - Crisologo play about 8 moves of main theory before wandering off. White starts with his customary space advantage in the KID and then it slowly peters away and with 12.f4 Black even has an edge. I've noticed Lucan pushes his f-pawn to the detriment of his king in a few of his other games. The recapture 13.ed is not best and allows Rauol's counterplay begun with Rb8 to make sense and he reels off a tactic to win material and the game.
Mennella's 2.d5 is not a very good one against the Budapest. King avoids the natural move d6 and despite the fact that he finds a hard time to develop his minor pieces with his eccentric play of c6 directed against the center he manages to stay very close to equality but cracks start to appear in his position after the exchange of dark squared bishop for a White knight. 18.Qd5 just drop a piece and the game due to the overloaded bishop on b7.
It doesn't take William's game long to come off the tracks with his one gear mentality of attack, attack, attack! I bet he hears drums beating in his head when he plays! Fail to take him seriously and his attack could blow you off the board! Fortunately for Dominick he is able to take the necessary defensive precautions and weather the storm. He did miss 14...Bb7 instead of 14...Nf6 allowing Dereck a chance to regain his pawn with a slight disadvantage. But that would require a gear shift and that would throw the mantra attack, attack, attack! out of whack!
