TCC-39 Round 2 Games
What can I say?, if you play Vadim enough you're bound to get lucky once in a while. Vadim didn't look like himself in this game. In his defense, he has destroyed me so many times in the past he probably had his guard down, way down!
In Paschal's own words, "Jim made this win look effortless!". I agree! Nice game Jim! Jim is an officer in the Southern California Chess Federation and also on the board of directors for the Temecula Chess Club. Jim also has 30 plus attendances of the U.S. Open. His tiredless devotion to the promotion of chess in the U.S. and California deserves recognition.
O.K. this game is a beautiful gem! The right Robert King showed up for this game and he was smoking! The final position says it all!
Fellinger - Gay was a struggle and with 44. Qxd7 Mike could take the point home in the ending since he is the only one with a tempo generator (i.e. a piece.) Instead he keeps on attacking instead of making the transition into an ending but it pays off and on move 63 has a mating attack on 63.Bg6 but instead chose 63.Qg6 allowing Pachal to live on. He could have gotten back on track with 64.Qf6 followed by a bishop check and the mate lives on!
