The conditions for Fool's mate occurs after Player 1 (Red) begins with the move 1. h3 or 1. h4, which is then followed by Player 3 (Yellow) with the move 1. - - g11 or 1. - - g12, and Player 4 (Green) with the move 1. - - - k7 or 1. - - - l7. It usually helps in the setup if Player 2 (Blue) is not able to deliver a check on Player on his second move.

Player 1 then captures Player 4's Queen with 2. Qxn8. Provided Player 2 does not deliver a check on Player 3, Player 3 is able to deliver checkmate on Player 4 with the move 2. - - Bm7.
