The Fried Liver Attack, Utterly useless and totally predictable.

When i first started playing chess of course like every other human being i looked for a really cool strategy to win more games faster and better to rank up my elo and stuff and ive found the fried liver attack and my first impression on it was oh my god the best use of the italian opening ever and ive literally used it in like 30 games even more AND NONE OF THEM EVER SUCCEED IN DELIVERING A PROPER A FRIED LIVER ATTACK its literally so predictable to the point all clueless noobs know how to even counter it its absolutely waste of tempos to play with this horrible and predictable trap.

GoodishTimer

I Would love to hear your thoughts about it.

BulletCloud

Bro, you just don't know theory... Fried Liver is actually really good.

SavaggeOne

People at your level aren't going to fall for it.

Navethethird

in the lower levels if you know your theory in the gambit lines then your just up a pawn cause lower level players most likely don't know theory.

GoodishTimer

Im literally just 1000 elo and if my level aint falling for it then who does

GoodishTimer

There's gambits in the FLA trap?

VegetableEnthusiast

usually maybe around 350-450

What some people think is the Fried Liver is not the Fried Liver. The Fried Liver is 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 Nxd5? 6.Nxf7

A lot of people think it starts with 4.Ng5 but it comes 4 ply after. So, are you sure you are really talking about the Fried Liver?

j4ysucksatchess

man I love it when my I was that level and someone played fried liver against me, I would play fun gambits, most people knew traxler but a lot of people dont know Nxe4 taking whites pawn, and if white takes the pawn with the knight like they do in the fried liver, then you play Qh4 threatening mate. Theres a lot of lines that go with it, Gotham has a vid on yt about it I think.

GoldenFlicker

4. Ng5 is one of the main lines against the 2 N's Defense. But anyone who has done even a little study of the opening will know not to play 5 ... Nxd5. Hoping your opponent falls for that is not the only reason to play 4 Ng5.

alfonsocapone1921

as is the Traxler counteroffensive

Aragorn

I play the fried liver, but the Max Lange attack has more theory (same position) Its a nice gambit, look it up, watch some yt vids on it.

For the Italian with 3...Bc4 I recommend the Evans Gambit, I have trapped 1600s with that one.

The_Nerd-Man

Just as an opening trap on its own, The FL is horrible. But it is a decent way to force your opponent into an uncomfortable position.

tgunther

Agree with Aragorn -- Evans is way fun to play...

kaidenthestarter

it Just depends what Elo you're at.

Fried Liver is really good. Under 1100, that is.

exbC

Didn't Hikaru pull it off in the 2023 Norway Chess?

Navethethird

prag pulled it off in tata steel I think

Indeed. And this error is by far one of the most frequent ones perpetuated by teachers at all levels.

I’ve played the Black side against the Fried Liver in correspondence chess. It was one of the most satisfying and intense games I’ve ever played. We agreed to a draw after 22 moves as I threatened a repetition.
