The Future of Chess Result Reporting.

Prompt reporting is the issue. Take the individual competitions this year; none of the 5 rounds have yet been submitted and therefore all 'current' grades cannot be accurate for all competitors (and by many others competing against these players). Thankfully the new system calculates the grades automatically (it's all computerized now) in the correct order after result/date input with the resulting knock on effects on all players in the system - which makes life a whole lot easier...

which would have suited Darkhorses just fine; we'd have lost 27 from the team total (in place uf the ungraded 100) and swapped boards 3 & 4 around. As it is though, I think the Clough is calculated on the season 'starting' grade anyway - but I've been known to be wrong on many things...

I agree with John regarding the prompt reporting of match results. Its a crucial part of the season and why havent we received wk 12 results as yet? Its a farce. Website is also poor. I was thinking about entering a second team into the league. I wonder if I will bother with all this apathy going on.

Fixtures are really flying onto the chessnuts site now!
Looks like chessnuts really is the future of Reporting. If each club set up on chess.com
the BDCA could get rid of the website.

Message from Paul Clarke could players/captains in the BDCA also email him results, pass message on. Email address; pclarkekippax@screaming.net

Not sure if it has already been suggested but could we not automate it all by allowing results being posted via a form on the BDCA website?
Last season we hit the final couple of rounds in the league not knowing for sure what results were needed to get promotion or avoid relegation.

How would you ensure the integrity of such a thing? Would it be any better than chessnuts( which can still be linked from the BDCA site- I think) ?

Team captains would post own results and integrity could be done simply by comparing scorecards of teams that played each other (i.e. if i posted a 4-2 winning result, the opposing team would have to post a 2-4 defeat). These would be automatically validated before being updated on the site. It should be relatively simple to implement. It would be like completing a scorecard but online then click a submit button. If you wanted to get a bit more sphisticated you could even set up username/password for team captains so that only they could post results.
I'm not sure how the existing process on chessnuts works.
What really matters here (regardless of method used) is that we all want an up to date system and quick update of results, automaded ot not. We all complain about it but no one seems to be able to grab the bull by its horns, have a discussion and move forward with a good solution.
