The Lord of the Rings General Discussion

Provided that this is a group for those enjoyers of The Lord of the Rings and Tolkien, it was relatively surprising to discover that there was no forum intended specifically for group discussion of our common interest.

General discussion of anything pertaining to The Lord of the Rings is relevant here.

It seems me interesting to search for and challenge other LotR like teams.

May you know some please share it us so we can challenge them.

It would be excellent if we could actually host stimulating discussions in this venue.

With the hopeful aim of encouraging others to participate, here is a first question to initiate things:

Why do you like LotR, and how engaged are you with the works? (A general indicator such as: watched the movies, movies and read LotR, movies/read LotR and other Tolkien books)

Since nobody seems to be responding, how about a Lord of the Rings question?

If you could be one of the characters, which one would it be, and why?

Trivia question: Which main character in the books is descended from Elrond's brother Elros?

Avatar of Ulmo

Any takers?

As to Ulmo's question, it would be Aragorn, and (I believe) Boromir.

P.S., I am really new and don't really get all the controls different things here in this site.

Aragorn is definitely the answer to Ulmo's question, but it's not clear if Boromir is.  I don't think I've ever seen anywhere that the house of the Stewarts were descended from the royal line of Numenor.  I think it is likely that they are, but I don't recall seeing any proof that they are.

Boromir would be descended from the royal line of Numenor because Hador son of Hathol had three sons: Galdor, Gundor and Gloredhel. Gundor was the great great grandfather of Elros Tar-Minyatar. Galdor was the father of Hurin from whom the line of stewards is descended. Therefore, the line of kings and the line of stewards are related. Therefore, Boromir is also descended from the royal line of Numenor.

Thanks, Karyn.   I'll look into that -- I may have missed that all these years.  I've always assumed they were, but it would be nice to know it as fact.

They are. They are said to be akin to the Kings of Gondor, who are akin to the royal line of Numenore.
