I don´t see what´s your point, tbh.
(I agree with you, I have always though the same, it´s like asking before saying something to somebody: "Can I tell you the truth?" -not sure if it´s the same phrase in English-)

I think it all stems from texting on phones. Whilst Ive never sent a text in my life ( due to ignorance and not feeling a need to learn) I think its just folk who use terms without thinking of the meaning.
eg 'Thats fantastic' They mean 'Thats great' but originating in all likelihood from Latin meaning 'unbelievable, out of this known world'.
'Literally' is often used in this sense too.
No harm in any of it of course, language evovles and thats the way is is.
The germ that some people use "tbh" stands for to be honest.
Story cut short, this would mean, that they would normally not be honest.
"Tbh, cats rule the world"
"I hate pizza."
The second comment, doesn't have to be true because (and it isn't true) because it doesn't have tbh?
The point of the term tbh was to have people to be more honest often.....
Anyone see a sad connection with this?
