Thoughts about black in this opening?

What is the best way to counter this--what should my plan be?

I think black played very good in the opening and i think black lost because of the middle game and end game play. Stockfish gave an advantage of +.52 to white coming out the opening which is very normal for white because of the first move advantage.

That being said I have a few thoughts about what would have better to play for black after the opening.

1. First off the obvious losing your pawn early on (5.Qxg7) gave a slight material advantage that took a while for you to regain.

2. Later on you moved you knights a lot (moves 11,12,13 & 18,19,20) just to trade them without any material or positional advantage; this is a loss in tempo.

3. Again with the knights at move 20 you were slightly winning but you traded your powerful, active knight for his not very active bishop there by giving him a slight advantage the he held for the remainder of the game.

4. Lastly you allowed white to skewer you on move 29 but he didnt see it.

This is my humble analysis of the game and i might be completely wrong but this is just what i see when i look at this game. Overall this was a very good game with those very slight mistakes that i mentioned.

I'm going to echo a bit of what was said above and also provide a bit of opening analysis. I won't explore too much past the first ten moves.

That's just my two cents. Let me know if you have any questions.
