Longer time setting means more time to analyze positions and develop a deeper understanding of Chess
Shorter time setting means more games to be played and more experience practicing current knowledge and ideas
Longer time setting is better for improving processing strength (strength as in ability to analyze deeply not speed)
Shorter time setting is better for improving processing speed (processing is limited to current processing strength)
A longer attention span will help in analyzing positions
Some might choose to have some balance between different time settings
