Timing Out on USTCL Games

Hi everyone,

As noted in the most recent announcement, we've been having a real problem with people timing out on games in the USTCL. If we lose against Wisconsin (a team we destroyed last year), it will be because of time outs on our team.

Please don't register for matches unless you are willing to commit to playing them through. With daily chess, there should never be a need for a loss on time.

If you have too many games going at once, or have finals, or are traveling, you can set your account to "vacation" mode and it will pause your clock. You don't have unlimited vacation time on chess.com but if you've been using the platform for a while, you probably have weeks of vacation time accrued which you can use to avoid timeouts.

In addition, mrvmeck posts the following advice:

"If I can suggest something.  I have a Platinum membership.  At that level when I get close to the deadline on a daily game, the system automatically puts my daily games into vacation mode.  This feature has proven useful for me.  I have a busy schedule, so sometimes I come close to violating the deadlines.  I have made use of this feature to help me manage my games when my schedule has put me at risk for losing on time.  This feature may help others who come close to taking too long to make a move.  Increasing the subscription level may cost a little more, but for me it is worth it.  Some others may also benefit from this feature."

Dumb question: I think I joined the match but haven't been assigned a game... am I missing something (I don't want to time out!). Pax.

Hi Pax - not a dumb question at all. You signed up for the match against Ohio which will start on 10/14 (Saturday). You have three days from the start of the match to make your first move as white and will have three days from your opponent’s first move as white to make your first move as black.

Where are you in Wyoming? Welcome to the club!
