What kind of advice does anyone have on the endgame?

I am new to this game, but what i've learned so far is this, put your king always on front of you pawn if you are going to make a queen out of it. if you play it right there is no way that you are going to lose it. also when you see the end game coming, start killing those unprotected pawns, they might become queens if you let them

Well actually I think is gaining the opposition when it comes to pawn+king vs lone king but if its lone kingvsking+pawn then its the critical squares.  And learning to "lose" a turn is usefull too. Rooks belong passed pawns is a principle. Also the king is a strong attacking piece in the endgame once all the heavy and minor pieces are gone.

to me..my endgame is all about counting...counting the pawns, the piece, the moves, time, and the squares to which the passed will take to become queen,

the endgame is about position.  getting your pieces in position to block, trap, or delay your opponent from gettign the advantage

this is also the best time to show how strong your king is.

at that time if youyr queen is gone, the king takes the cener stage and runs the show

do not let your pawn double cause in end game it cost u trouble but if u have good plan.go......Hakuna matata^_^

Bring the king into the game, he is stronger than a knight or bishop!

Also dont always depend on youre king because you might stale mate him. Use minor pieces if you have them too as youre advantage. And watch out for knight vs bishop bishop of opposite color and queen vs two rooks.

I hear 2 rooks are better than a lone queen. How?

mondy707

maybe because a queen is a 9 points piece but 2 rooks are 10 points, plus u may block the king from going anywhere else than the row u want when u have 2 rooks!!

Deruku

Thiers a way to grab a queen with two rooks. Its a tacticle match, if I could I'll post a game where two rooks beat one queen.

Advice: Get your King active and centralised, once its attackers are depleted. Marshall your forces to escort the prize pawn to Queendom - it can sometimes be a suicide mission behind enemy lines.  Kill any pawn that tries to sneak through. Celebrate!!

Apart from general principles (e.g., use your King if the Queens are off the board), there are many specific positions that have traps for someone trying to think them through for the first time. Play some Endgame Simulations. If you have trouble, look at the Videos of Endgame Studies.

If you are getting checked by a knight, you should move so that you are positioned diagonally to the knight with on square between your king and the knight.

For example: White: Ke4 Black: Ng8

1. ... Nf6+

2. Kd4!

Now the knight needs 3 moves until it can put you in check again. This is helpful in long time controls, because you can improve your king safety in the endgame and it is also useful in blitz/bullet, because you can move instantly in response to a check and also you can move faster afterwards because you don't have to think abou any checks from the knight anymore. You basically safe a lot of time with that neat little trick.
