If the score after 90 days, will be, let say, 65-59 ( 80 pairs)? What happen? Is not a draw and nobody won the match mathematical !

blackfirestorm

If after 90 days it shows as 65-59 then the win will be awarded to the team that shows the 69

NICU_57

Is not fair, in my opinion:(

Suppose that after 100 days the result is reverse, 65-81. So the second team win the match mathematical...But in the TMC tournament, the first team it was declared the winner...

I guess , more fair, mathematical endings should be expected

This rule of the 90 days, will discourage the teams to play big matches with many players :(

I think the goal of this tournament is to provide as many players the chance to play, not contrary

blackfirestorm

Well being fair this is the 3rd or 4th year this tournament has been running and it IS very popular among teams on this site. As it stands, 90 days has to be the cut off point because if it was left any longer than that it would take almost 18 months per tournament.

What would you suggest? That we all wait till a match has a significant winner before making the pairings for the next round?

jpf

Maybe this problem could be solved with these optional rules:

option A- 2 days per move

option B- no vacation allowed

blackfirestorm

Its set at 3 days per move because that is the standard match time for the majority of matches. A lot of people couldn't play games at 2 days per move.

And B you can't stop people using vacation. If someone has an emergency and can't get online (especially if a premium member due to them having automatic vacation time if running low) then why should the whole team lose due to an emergency?

blackfirestorm

People you are trying to fix something that isn't broken here. This tournament has been running a long time now and has been very successful throughout this time. Nobody has ever had any issues with the 3 days per move, or the 90 day cut off point or even someone using their vacation time.

jpf

I understand. But as NICU mentioned it's not fair a team looses a match because some matches are late, and for the very same reason: vacations. The team always loose.

jpf

I accept the rules but i understand NICU doubts. Just discussing will not harm Cool

blackfirestorm

If a team wins the match then they will still get the "points" from it as far as chess.com leader board is concerned. Having a player be on vacation for 2-3 days how does that make the team lose the points? They just continue the games when they get back surely?

How would YOU feel if your team lost points due to time forfeit?

blackfirestorm

Yes I understand too but its not practical.

NICU_57

One suggestion: the matches to be opened with min 5 players and one maximum of 30 or 40 players. So, the numeber of games will be smaller and the rule of 90 days can be applied.

I still remain on the idea that is not correct so far.

And an explanation: is the first time when my group participate at this tournament. i didn't know of this rule, wich makes us to play with a small number of players, to be a fair result

blackfirestorm

I am sure you are aware that each team is different? Some teams have more members than others. How fair would it be to a team of say 240 to have a max limit of "40" members?

I hate to say this Nicu but why would anyone join a tournament and not read the rules first? We spent over 2 months with registration open and anyone could read the rules at any time.

http://www.chess.com/groups/forumview/rules-of-the-chesscom-tm-championship

It clearly states:

4. Match challenges  and group classification:
All groups, team challenges and dates will be defined by the pairing boards. The group located on the left of the TM Name is the challenger for that match.
From the pairing boards date, there are 2 days to accept the challenge and a total of 5 days to lock the rosters and start the games. In case of a team refusing to play or not meeting  these dates will mean losing the match with an score of 20-0
All games have to finish before 90 days from the initial date, otherwise we will take the score in that given moment as the final result.

If this was an issue why not raise it before the tournament started? Its bad practice to start changing the rules after a tournament has started...

NOPI

We know the rules, but rules can be changed (improved)Cool

I agree to with NICU, it's not fair! NICU says, "I guess, It's more fair, mathematical endings should be expected". Why not, what the problem is? The new season can begin, and not yet completed the final round.

As far as I know, in all competitions at Chess.com, waiting for the mathematical winner(maybe I'm wrong)

By the way, Team USA,has not yet accepted the challenge(Croatian Chess Temple)

I hate to say this Donna , but,  Rules of the Chess.com TM CHAMPIONSHIP, should be copied here, in this topic, #1 comment.Frown

The rules are in a sticky thread at the front of the group forums. they shouldn't need to be posted each time a forum has been opened

Seahorses

We can't change the rules after a tournament starts.  No tournament could ever do that.  It would ruin the integrity of the contest.  This tournament has had the same rules for years.  Just try to come in at least second in each round and your tournament will continue.

NICU_57

OK. He was just one opinion . Maybe, next year we ( you) can change that unfair rule , she can make a loser in a winner of TMC. Think about .

NOPI

The tournament has just begun and this rule can be changed.
But, do not have to do it now, if you do not want to, but should be considered for next season. It is dangerous for the match of equals  teams. One  point, after 90 days may (perhaps unfairly) to decide the winner.
Think about that!
