Interesting. Yes the first thought would not be to sac a pawn and give the black king good position, but I guess the logic is white is much closer to queening and the immediate zugzwang make it just an easy win.

You might be able to make a study out of it if you had analogous position where maybe black was a little closer to queening or had a few more pawns so the sac is much harder to spot.

Thanks for your comments. My bias is towards endgames from my own games that I failed to solve during the game. I also like to take a look at GM endgames that were not played out OTB because, to the participants, the win was obvious, but not so to us non-titled players.

Yes even after many years I find myself blowing K+P endings (especially in blitz) and learning new opposition based moves that I thought I had fully covered. So yes the positions you post are quite interesting and valid. I just always try to find logical reasoning to things as in most (many?) positions equal material leads to a draw so something like this I really want to understand deeply why one side even should win.

Have you ever looked at Capablanca's ending? I reviewed it in amateur to im and probably played it with the computer 100 times but it is very interesting with very little material. If not for a post you might enjoy looking at it.
