I agree, you can wait ages to play and no one joins.
Uncommon 4PC Variants in Variants Server

Some of the variants might have a pretty small player pool and it could be hard finding a game through a live queue, maybe you can find other interested parties through the forum (of the variants club might be a better idea) and agreeing on a time to play
well all you need is to convince them...
Challenges alone are unconvincing.
I wouldn't take a risk and PM so many players or invite players I don't know.

So, overall, there are many 4PC variants that have been refurbished to variants. The new standard is probably the most popular, but other common variants (i.e. Chaturaji) exist.
However, there’s a big problem: many players are not choosing some of the other variants. For example, this morning, I sent a challenge of Island Hoppers but no one was joining, so I surrendered my own challenge.
I also want to play Tic Tac Toe, but if no one is going to play that either, how is this possible?
I strongly think players should go for the throat and try bigger varieties of variants. They may learn something new after losing a certain position at least once. What do you think about this opinion?
I understand the problem, but why not invite friends together at some time to play an option? I once did this on another site, and it's much better than waiting forever.

Yes, that’s an option, but it only means adding 2 players. It might still be a problem that lasts.

You're probably right.
Also, this big problem has negative impacts on tournaments. It can leave tournaments like the Collateral Worlds Open without any games or a player. Even if 2 players join, that's probably all the players that will join.

I don't like a single variant of those 10 4pc variants that pop up. They all have fairy pieces and it's really boring. These variants only get players who don't know they can hover over custom position that little rook logo and see the variant, so they don't have to join in order to see how the variant looks like. Besides that there's King Safety FFA that no one plays, as well as antichess teams. and also there are those stupid WoF I believe with regular chess 8 squares board zoomed in, it must've been really hard to invent that one. I don't see the purpose, how can such variant be fun to play. There are 3 more WoF that are not to my liking. The one stuffed with kings, empty big board with fairy pawns and kings and the small one with fairy pawns moving only diagonally promoting to grasshopper and sth else like knight to deliver the checkmate to the king that can't move. I know the purpose is luck or sth, but it doesn't seem playable to me +no fun. The other thing about fairy pieces, I'm usually complaining about too many pieces like hawhs and such that are complicated and big board for no reason. Remember when there was a variant with every color had a fairy piece that was a king, N-Check like 9 checks or checkmate, only green had a queen. Sure, put a big board, but I would avoid too many complicated fairy pieces and put those who move 1 square or sth, or put 1 complicated fairy piece, like 1 hawk. Nobody wants to make it beginner friendly and everyone is playing some Mega Fairy...Sadge We have a lot of problems with variants since 2019, that's why I don't play them 0 to my liking
I think players just dont realize there are more variants. they think about 4pc and just go to 4 player chess button and variants are hidden, while before we had variants visible by default when people enter the server

Maybe, to solve the problem, let’s have all variants in a “4PC games” tab.

In WoF I only liked huge board 1pt queens are going around checking kings in the center, doing double checks, also it's a king capture
how do u do those walls Jk?
CSS - if you want a more detailed explanation, I can guide you through it on discord
I'm not @TheUltraTrap, and I want a guide on it, but we can't do it on discord.
