Anyone who is serious about improving their chess game, and is not already a member of the United States Chess Federation (USCF) should strongly consider joining.

Benefits include being able to play in rated tournaments anywhere in the US (there are lots in Pennsylvania, including some in Berks County), getting an official national rating, and making lots of new chess friends!

Since tournament play is generally taken more seriously than casual play, and tournament players are generally better players than non-tournament players, joining the USCF should help to improve your chess game.

More information about the USCF can be found at their website http://www.uschess.org/.  Current one-year membership rates are as follows:

$17 for players ages 12 & under

$22 for players ages 15 & under

$26 for players ages 24 & under

$40 for players ages 65 & over

$46 for a regular adult

Family memberships are also offered for families with multiple chess players.
