Here are the rules for USTCL:

US Chess League State Competition Season 2017 Division 3

Spirit: The US Chess League is an interstate competition between teams representing the 50 States of the US. 29 States are entering the competition this year. While every team is encouraged to motivate their teams to do their best, the League also intends to help teams to grow in size and become more active drawing from players in their state. As teams use different criteria in terms of membership eligibility, admins are asked to inform their teams about the nature of the competition and discourage members with no-state ties from joining matches for this competition. We have never had issues in the past so we are confident that this won't be any different this year. In case of disputes or questions, contact the admin of your opposing team first then the Chess League admins rather than commenting publicly.

Rules and Regulations:

1. Length of Season 7 (2017): 1 year

2. Format 9 Rd Round Robin. One team each round will have a bye which will count as a win.

3. Start Date: July 14th

4. Minimum number of players per team: six (3). No maximum number of players.

5. Rating Range: Open

6. Time: 3 days/move, Games to be played concurrently (i.e. change default setting from "1" to "2", see here how to do it.)

7. Prizes: Trophies for places 1 thru 3.

8. Player eligibility: All admins understand that this is a competition between players of the respective states and adhere to the common sense principles of such a competition. A player can only play for one team throughout a season regardless of division. Once he plays for a team he has to stay with that team throughout the season.

9. The first place team will be promoted to Division 2.

10. Tiebreaker will be head-to-head results, and then aggregate match points.

11. Teams may not remove players from their roster to obtain a more favorable matchup.Team admins may remove players from their roster who exceed a timeout ratio of 25%. Removed players need to be published in the team match thread prior to commencement of match. Example: “Player A was removed in accordance with timeout rule: Timeout ratio 55%.”

12. Match scores will be finalized after taking into consideration the account closures of members due to cheating. This will occur prior to announcing the final standings.

13. Teams are encouraged to use the AutoStart features when issuing the challenge. When using the feature, set the start time to 7PM PT of the day shown on the schedule.

14. Warnings and Penalties: see here

The 2016 season has ended and they are preparing for the 2017 season which starts July 14th.

The commitment is 2 games each month for 9 months (may change pending number of teams entered) and we need a minimum of 6 players to participate.

Can those willing to participate please confirm. I would like this to be a commitment for us instead of friendlies. It would be great if we could get a range of ratings but we go with what we get.

Thank you.

Just a reminder that you do not have to commit to playing all 7 rounds. Just join those that you can. This is not the same players playing every round for 7 rounds.

Our R3 match is against Utah. I will send the challenge on Oct 4th and games should begin on Oct 14th.

Just a heads up that we get a bye in R4

Avatar of centipawns

Sure would be nice if we could get someone around 1900 to play in the Utah game. Changes the ratings of the boards dramatically.

A reminder that we have a bye this month.

Keep up the good work. Hope you are having fun.

OK team, apparently the schedule was changed and there are no byes anymore.

So we do in fact have a game in R4. It is against Oklahoma and I have issued the challenge. Games will start Nov 14.

Thanks.

Liking out match up against Oklahoma. Ratings favour us.

Our match against Utah is close at 3-4.

I see a win for us in one or both of these.

We are 7-5 against Utah with 2 matches to go. A tie is guaranteed!! If stassky can get even a 1/2 point, the win will be ours. Go stassky.

A minimum of a tie is also guaranteed against Oklahoma. Well done team!!
