Duncan Suttles is still alive... 78 years old now. Probably not competing any more, though.

He was considered the world’s leading expert on the Pirc. He’s like 75, hasn’t played in tournaments for years. He was one of the more personable GM’s I’ve ever met (I’ve only met a few).

Duncan is Canadian, right? He made GM? Suppose I could look it up. Was stationed in Iceland back in the day. Met John Fedorowicz when he wax playing an event there. Personable guy! Very approachable.

He was born in California, but moved to Canada at 8. He was awarded GM in 1972, though he was at GM strength in 68. I remember reading about it. In 68, he played (and won) one more game than was necessary so was denied the title, settling for IM. He quit playing competitive chess in 1985.
