Using vacation time

Hello,

In an tournament on the Italian opening, hosted by ChessUniversity, which started in may 2017, one user in my group is on vacation all the time. He does a move every six weeks or so. This is very frustrating and holding up the progress of the tournament. This is also the reason I don't join tournaments anymore that accept vacation time. Would it be possible for ChessUniversity to consider removing these users from the tournament ( if possible). Thanks

I have also been in discussion with chess.com support desk, but formally this behavior cannot be called abuse, as he is not in a losing position. But still it is very frustrating. He has 7 days vacation left as a diamond member, so I hope the game will be over next week

Same here! Also you could quit that tournament and join a new one that doesn't allow vacation time. They're labeled differently.

I've noticed in some of my tournaments that players will be on vacation, yet if you look at their stats they are logging in and playing in live chess almost daily.  It's definitely got me thinking I need to make sure and only join "no vacation" tournaments.

Yeah It's basically EXTRA TIME TO THINK... and I don't know how to turn it on myself so I consider it unfriendly.

Hopeful not me?

C'mon gentlemen, there's no violence necessary, just call him out on it.

Actually I am waiting on a response from Chess University to see if they want to take this issue seriously and making some guidelines for their tournaments. Not sure if it is technically possible, but I would rather see that people who take a certain amount of time for their turns, via using vacation time extensively are being removed from an ongoing tournament.

what I see in some other clubs, is that before starting the tournament, users with a certain time-out ratio are being removed before start.

By the way, if I would quit myself than it does cost me rating points and that is something I don't want

I couldn't agree more

There's not much we can do about it but we do organize no-vacation tournaments too so joining those in the future would be better.

Please let me rise in favor of responsible use of vacation time.  I have a very demanding day job, and there are periods of time (sometimes weeks at a stretch) when I'm just too absorbed in client matters to have time to play chess.  I'm a Diamond member, so when I'm out of time in a Daily Chess game, my status automatically switches to vacation.

This has been a lifesaver for me, allowing me to remain a happy chess.com member.  When my wave of work pressure goes down, I'm back on the boards eager to play.

I have never abused vacation time, and I never will.  But sometimes, it really comes in handy.  As others have pointed out, it's perfectly fine for some people to want and expect their tournaments to progress quickly, That's why God invented the no-vacation tournament!  If you join a vacation-allowed tournament, please understand that some of us may use that chess.com feature.  (Of course, the guy who goes on "vacation" while spending hours playing Live Chess is another matter altogether!)

I expect that mine will be an unpopular opinion on this thread; but please accept that I'm making my comments (and using my vacation time) in good faith.
