vacation cheat
Yeah, about a year, year and a half ago, I attempted to rectify Vacation Abuse on CF. No one wanted to hear about it, particularly MGleason, the Staff/Moderator of the group.
It's sort of like increment chess, where the initial time is the vacation and the actual time per move is an analog of the increment, except the vacation time is a single parallel pool for all games. Note that the most 2 months of vacation can do is add 1/6 to the year as a whole, 3 months up to 1/4. Most people I know don't use more than a week or two total.
It's just part of the rules, not cheating, and gives no unfair advantage.
Vacation abuse is when someone goes on vacation for ages in a dead lost position to delay the inevitable and/or disrupt a tournament.
No - Elroch, you have it wrong.
Chess.com permits Vacation to alter the clock. It adds time to an individual's clock. I've never thought the excuses given were adequate as to why chess.com does this. Mr. Sir MGleason gave me the trite line -- "correspondance clocks are not really clocks, they're just there to move the game along"... and yet, those players without Vacation do not have this luxury of Time Adjustment in their favor. So, it is an undue, undeserved advantage. I.e., it is a Cheat. By definition. You can try to twist and contort that logic all you want, as MGleason and the rest of chess.com STAFF have done over the years. In the end, you are allowing players like this joker playing GeneralChang to abuse the system (.. yes, the "rules") to their advantage.
It's cheating.
Thanks Spacebux, Markierockstar will log in and out from vacation to add more time to his clock. He was able to make a 24 hour game last 5 days. I am not the only person he has done this too.
Are you claiming his remaining vacation is not going down in steps of 1 day at a time? As of now, he is not on vacation, so you need to check how much vacation time he has left next time he goes on vacation, and the time after that, as a minimum.
He has an allocation of 60 days per year, so it is not going to last long using it to top up move time as you suggest.

This guy will set up a 24 hour game and rely on vacation time, waits for you to get tired of his stalling, then makes a move hoping you lose on time. When he comes back from "vacation", his timer is reset to 24 hours.
