Variants Status Update

Hello everyone and thank you very much for your patience and understanding.

We released a lot of updates today, but unfortunately faced some issues even though we were prepared and had enough time spent testing changes on staging and variants-test. All unexpected critical issues that were causing variants server crashing were relatively quickly fixed and now are solved. Below I'm providing the list issues I am aware of and their statuses.


UPDATE [Sep 4]

Issues fixed:

  • Spell Chess queues don't get matched
  • 4P spell chess causing server crashes
  • Clock not updating in played games
  • 4pc board becomes huge after playing spell chess
  • Invalid position of spell fields in rotated 4pc
  • Fogged squares are revealed by last-move highlight
  • 4pc games with zombies getting out of sync
  • Players unable to move after opponent castles
  • Unable to move pieces using touchscreen
  • Arrows are not supported by some browsers
  • Checkmates are not registered correctly
  • Disable ep help modal until we have its content
  • Coordinates toggle is inverted
  • N-check is stayed on dead pieces after checkmate
  • Royal indicator is stayed on checkmated pieces
  • Timed-out players (zombies) are gray
  • Captured pieces are missing
  • Promoted pieces lose their alternative design
  • Plus-points have the color of rotation
  • Play/Invite button is bugged
  • No promotion select on mobile
  • Apply most-pop variant filter if it is duplicated in cats
  • Fog update is delayed
  • Move lag (in particular premoves) is too high
  • Arrows flashing and not working after games
  • No specific sound when it's your turn
  • Material count in teams is missing
  • Typo in animation settings tooltips
  • "Claim win" appears for all players
  • No coords of hovered square on K key to press
  • Animated jumps opt-out
  • Board is not updated on move-link click in chat
  • White pieces are gray

UPDATE [Sep 11]

Issues fixed:

  • White pieces are gray
  • Fog perspective is not reset on game start
  • Error on pawn-starting-rank change to 0
  • Promotion is broken
  • Arenas are missing
  • Non-q piece promotion is registered as =Q
  • Stonewall effect not working
  • Rip effect re-apply glitching (unhandled error)
  • Coords are not supported by legacy browsers
  • Move jump from the beginning not working
  • Clicking play/exit redirects to friend requests page
  • Black usernames in watch list are hardly visible
  • Legal indicator settings (color and transparency)
  • Board not updating on game load at specific move
  • Frozen pieces still attack
  • Attacks through jump spell are not considered
  • Open tournament modal by url
  • Board glitches on variation cut (unhandled error)
  • Checkmates are not registered correctly
  • Freezing and putting king next to opponent’s is mate

UPDATE [Sep 18]

Issues fixed:

  • Wrong player gets the win
  • Spells position is not updated on preview
  • Invalid rotation perspective on preview
  • No ratings in user popup
  • Legal highlights apply to fogged squares
  • Legal highlights remain after source piece move
  • Pinned knight cannot capture king
  • Piece loses selection on opponent move
  • Invalid position of player boxes on rotated custom dim
  • Invalid position of coordinates on rotated custom dim
  • Spells of dead players are not hidden
  • Opponent piece is revealed for a moment on capture
  • n-check is hardly visible on white pieces
  • Dead pieces are moving to banks
  • Entering&exiting EP leads to strange things

UPDATE [Sep 21]

Issues fixed:

  • Rubicon and Blackletter are broken (custom setup rank, live only)
  • Fog blinking on page reload
  • Putting last piece to the board leads to stalemate
  • Rip animation is applied to stonewall pieces
  • Moving pieces are not on top of others
  • Zombies are shown as dead pieces
  • Bounties are shown as dead pieces
  • Hill effect is not rotated
  • Hill border color is missing
  • Add contrast coordinates setting

Mobile improvements are now in progress, as well as a few other issues.

There were some 3-party incidents so changes couldn't go live on Friday, sorry.
We are forced to wait for Monday now.

In my case, I see no coordinates at all whatever the setting!

Spell chess board is slightly smaller than the regular chess one

but it's the same size as Duck Chess, ok then, not a bug I guess...it's just that those two have the unique board size

But when i post in the bug thread, then a lot of people spam extra messages so i cant be seen in the front page. Fine i'll try but if those don't get fixed during the next 3 days...

When there is a FFA game going on, but there are grey pieces on the board, when you enter the game to observe, as soon as you enter, grey pieces disappear and appear quickly. This is definitely a bug

I know what those grey pieces bug is all about...I figured.

When you enter the game to observe, the game is showing you (or registering) a checkmate that happened earlier, it's not showing the king, but all grey disappear shortly and then appear again. In teams on the other hand let's say the game has ended, green is checkmated and you enter, same thing happens, it's just that green king is there in the color green, but a different green color, like in those variants where pieces are zombie, but you can capture them and gain points.
