Volunteers for Vote Chess Captains

Hi everyone!

As most of you know, Team Vote Chess here at YCPI has recently undergone some changes. One of these is the addition of a VC captain in each match. So far, I have been the only one fulfilling this role. However, I will not always be available to do this. Therefore, I am creating a vote chess captain sign up sheet with this forum! In order to sign up though, you must agree to follow these rules.

1. You must be an active participant in vote chess with prior team vote chess experience. Each move, you must be igniting discussion within the team, taking the strong discussed moves and turning them into a list from which players can choose what to vote for.

2. Your job is not to be a dictator. Your job is to moderate the discussion, contribute, and compile the best moves from the discussion. Personal preference should not be reflected through your captain position, but you can and should suggest moves that you feel are good.

3. If you have any issues involving a player, for example rule violations, let the vote chess admin (adarub1) or a superadmin know. We will handle it from there.

4. Do not abuse your power of vote chess captain. Any rules violation by a vote chess captain will result in their immediate expulsion from the position. Similarly, vote chess captains may not be on the spammer list.

If you meet these requirements and are interested, please sign up!

You also may be called on for temporary assignments, like this weekend, where I will be going offline for the Chicago Open.

I would like to become a vote chess captain. And I agree with FishGY, there should be more than one captain, so that you can't become a dictator.

Well I would do it but I think there should be more than one for different games and so different opinions are expressed (as is the point of vote chess). So yes I would like to be a vote chess captain

Fish GY, I see where you're coming from, but I also feel that this sytem is designed to encourage discussion. The captain does not have any more say than the next person when it comes to the discussion. Below, I'm also including a sample Vote Chess thread with 4 team members: the captain, Player 1, Player 2, and Player 3, and Player 4. Moves are referred to by letters. (In chronological order)

Captain: Nobody vote until we have discussed our options. I will let you know when we have reached a consensus.

Captain: I'm thinking move a. How does that look?

Player 1: I don't think it works out well because they have move b in response. I think we should play move c.

Player 2: I feel move c is strong.

Player 3: move c looks alright, but I think move d is good too.

Captain: I also like move d. Shall we put it to a vote between moves c and d?

Player 4: Sounds good.

Captain: Voting is now open! Vote for move c or move d!

I think the current plan should work out well for now, but if problems arise, I will definitely revise the system, possibly including a double captain system. I might also have a primary and secondary captain system, but I would have to figure that out. Thanks for the feedback.
