Vote Chess Ideals

Okay let me be brief and also suggest what works really well in my other group, with Vote Chess.  Essentially, we all sign up and play as a team.  I'd like to get some really great players and also some learners on the board.  The more players the merrier.

The idea is to have higher rated players, suggest their best ideas for moves to make and they should be open to explaining the logic, so our learners start to think like better rated players.

We have the option do research, so reviewing master games is not out of the question.  I'm not sure if it's frowned upon, or discouraged (seems a bit like cheating for me).  It was addressed by Chess.com and we CAN do research for the match.

The match is set-up for 1 move every 3 days.  On the first 2 days, we should consider how we want our game to proceed.  This is the conversation and/or argument phase.  On the last day, we should, ideally, have exhausted our situation and agree upon a given move.

AFTER THAT, I will make the best move, the move supported on by the team basically, in bold.  T'is as simple as that.

so... how do I sign up?

I'll put a link on the main page when they get back to me.  Thanks for your interest!  I'm glad you love the game so much.  You seem to put a lot of interest into getting better.  I can't wait to work on problems with you in the group fro Vote Chess.  It should be fun.  Thanks again!

I love the vote chess premise.  It's a great way to learn an opening as well.  performance in this venue is really a matter of having the proper understanding!

Vote Chess is a variation of daily chess. Daily Chess is a variation of correspondence chess.  We are allowed to use any print or database available to get through the opening of the game.  No analysis engines!!  That's right, vote chess is supposed to be a research exercise!  By doing the proper research you learn the classical lines, the branch points, and the resulting middlegames!

You should use a board or boards to move the pieces back and forth over and over again until you understand or at least think you understand the position!  I had one position that was so complicated that I had 4 boards out at the same time.  We played 22...Nh4!! This move was based on the idea of redeveloping black's pieces.  The game continued 23 c4?! f5 24. Nc3 Bf6! 25. Rac1 Qf7 26. Bd2 Rad8! 27. Ne2 Rd7 28. Kh2 Rc7 29. c5?! and finally 29...e4! Which brings me to my next point.  If you suggest a move, it must be accompanied by a variation or variations.  Barking out a half move once we are out of the database and printed materials is not very helpful to anyone.  The shortest length of a combination is a w,b,w,b,w, or a b,w,b,w,b.  Our opponents didn't play the best moves but they did play moves that we'd had to constantly consider every single move.  You can not have a good e or vote chess game by just looking at the screen for a few minutes and then just barking out a half move!!

The thing that got me away from playing vote chess was the early voting.  Move fast, lose fast is also true in vote chess.  Most of the early voting was from the weaker players and the moves were either ?!, ?, and sometimes even??  We lost a couple of games that way!!  Now you have to provide extensive analysis and make sure they get out voted!  From what you wrote it looks like a captain actually has the final say now.

I'd be willing to try it again as long as we are all on the same page.  Use the books and databases, explain your ideas for the moves you are suggesting, provide concrete variations when it gets messy, and no early voting!!

Ok... I'M ready!

I'm about to select a vote chess game and a match.  They will be thematics.  It may take a while to find an opponent.  Just to add a little to rtjrobertof_stpaul's message.  We want input from everyone.  If you don't know how to thoroughly analyze a position, now is the time to learn.  Chess players develop the same way regardless of age, gender, style, etc.  Every note to a move is a chance for players of all strengths to validate their thinking.  Please participate as much as possible.  I'm going to try 3 days, but if we don't perform well, I'm going to move it back to 7 days.  I will participate in all of the games and matches!!

7 days??!! dang...lool...it would be St.Patricks day before we'd be in the middle game... sigh...

rodilihp

just because we are giving 7 days to reply doesn't mean we have to take 7 does it?  If everyone has timed in and formed an opinion and we can go ahead and vote, that would give us the advantage of being able to throw off the other team's timing when we move.!!

beehivehairdo

thank you

I accept no early voting...I clearly understand no barking random moves without research...yet this will be my first time using a {w,b,w,b,w,} a{b,w,b,w,b} system..when do you apply this? After the center is controlled? or we can start bowling right away?

beehivehairdo

so yeah...I have a few tangible chess boards...I always take screenshots..it allows me to start a visual library play by play...I also write down moves in a chess journal...do you recommend the purchase of a 2d wall hanging or use the common wooden chess board for a realistic spatial view?

rodilihp

The real board.  The wbwbw and bwbwb don't really need to start until we are out of book or the opponent makes an error.  It is helpful to mention a variation if your move has one named after it!

rodilihp

"If we are out of book, a continuation or a diagram is appropriate.  When you don't include them, you are in essence telling the whole team to thoroughly analyze and provide you continuations and diagrams for every move that you are wondering about or interested in!?  The team is supposed to be checking continuations not 1/2 moves!!  Until we get organized enough to at least follow those minimum standards of performance and discussion, strong players will come to the game, stay a couple of moves and leave.  Not because your ideas are bad or weak, it will be because they have to do too much or your work in the game!"
