Vote Chess

Our vote chess games continue to go well. We have about 3 games that look like sure wins and a couple more that look good. None are sure losses. 

I like vote chess. It is a good chance for weaker players to learn from stronger players. However we seem to have two weak players who vote early every move and don't wait to see what the stronger players say about the position. If you are one of those players, please take a note.

Learn about chess by reading the comments of stronger players before you vote. 

Vote Chess continues to go well. We should get our third victory this week and probably the fourth next week! 

Yea Mark, that is part of a pattern I have seen with vote chess in this group for some time. There seems to be two players who are very weak and showing no signs of improving.

My guess is that they are kids. They may not speak English. I have tried to contact them and talk to them but they won't respond either in message or in comments. I am pretty sure it is the same two players who vote for the really dumb moves every time.

I guess it's just part of the game. That's Life, just like all those attractive women aren't in love with me, I have to listen to all those loud cars and pick-up trucks, there will be some nights I can't sleep, and it will be cold in January. What ya gonna do about it? 

Look at this Mark. This is from our first win. Look at the last three moves and my annotations.

Somebody voted to take the pawn on h7 3 moves in a row, including when we had mate in one. That tells me we are dealing with a 6 or 7 year old kid.

Yes. Everyone was posting that Qf6 is mate in one. That's why I think we have two kids who don't speak English.

And that's not the only case. It happens on more than half of the moves in some games. I think I know who the kids are, but I can't prove it.

Here's another example - from a game in progress right now.

Look at the last move. The opponent just blundered. All we need to do is take their bishop and then queen our a pawn. One person on our side voted Rd1. That tells me there is a kid somewhere who either won't wait to read the comments, or he doesn't speak English.

I see votes like that in almost every vc game we are playing.

We just won our third vote chess game. Thanks to all who helped. We beat Chess School, who is a good team. Good job to all on our team!!  

*edit* I looked at the archives on that game. They had 7-10 votes all the way through the game, down to the end. They discussed their moves. They are a good team.

Four games still going on. Group is now 4 wins against 3 losses in vote chess.

When do we want to start a new game? 

When we do start a new game, we need lots of players right away. I expect we will have the 2 kids voting for real bad moves early on, so we need some good players voting on those first moves! 

When do you think we should start a new game? We still have some games going on, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try playing a vote chess game with 2-3 day time controls, as we will have more time to think about our moves.

I'd say 2 days time control. it apeears to me 3 days is too much...

I like 2 days. As far as I am concerned, we can start anytime. In fact, I would like to start a new game and about a week or two later start another. That way we have games going on in different stage of the game.

I like the idea. Let's get started!!

Okay, I'll send out some challenges for 2-day-per-move vote chess games. Since we already have some going on, I'm thinking we should have 1 or 2 to start with, and then continue from there.

We have a new vc game against Chess Intelligence Quoitent. 

With the ones that have signed up so far, our team average rating is just over 1600 and theirs is just over 1300. 

Let's not mess this one up. 

It is 2 days per move, so we have plenty of time to talk before we vote.

It is a close game, but we seem to have the winnming position. With 40 comments on one move, you would think we would get it right huh?

I like vote chess. I think it is a good way for everyone to improve their game. The weaker players can improve more than the stronger players, so I like to see lots of weak players join in and play.

HOWEVER there is a catch.

We need weaker players to WAIT and read the suggestions and comments of stronger players before they, the weaker players, vote. If a player rated 1000 or 1100 clicks into a game as soon as it is our move and before we have started talking about what move is best, that 1100 rated player should NOT vote till the stronger (we have lots rated over 1600) have suggested a move and explained why it is best.

Sometimes we have 4 or 5 players vote early on a weak move and later the middle (that's me) and strong players have a long discussion over which of two moves is best. We really have trouble coming up with the good move because there are already 4 or 5 votes for a bad move.

But I do like vote chess and I do like to see EVERYBODY join and play. 

We are now getting close to 500 members and are down to four vc games. Since we just started two games, I suggest that we wait about a week or two and let those two games get past the first 6 or 8 moves and then start another game and about four days later start another.

By then both of our old games going on now will probably be over.

This is a great group and the vc has been really good! 

I'm OK with your proposal but I think 3 days per move is too much. Why don't we play one or two 24 hours and 1 or 2 48 hours?

Again, 3 days is tooooooooooooooo much...

Yea I don't like 3 days per move.

I think 2 days is OK. Now that our group is rolling and winning in 1 day per move games, I am starting to like that more than I did before.

We have a week or two to think about it. We are fortunate that awesomechess1729 is so supportive of our ideas.
