Claim for Section 5 of the ECL2023 and WCL2023 rules (https://www.chess.com/clubs/forum/view/wcl-2023-rules):
Isle of Man has 2 players with foreign flag while they are only 4 with national flag. According to appendix C of the rules @Betamu13 should win 2 - 0 for the match WCL2023 R2 also ECL2023 R3: Cuq-Toulza vs. Isle of Man.
My understanding according to the rules a team can have 1 foreign player in for each cumulative block of four players , these my be incomplete blocks of 4. Therefore in this specific case Isle of Man have 6 players giving them an allowance of 2 foreign flag players, they have 3 IoM flagged and 1 UK flagged player all counted as the home country, and 2 foreign flags which is allowed in the rules. Can @rainpiper confirm this.
- The number of foreign flag players is limited to 1 in each cumulative (possibly incomplete) block of 4 players (i.e. max 1 player on boards 1-4, max 2 players on boards 1-8, max 3 players on boards 1-12 etc.)
@Chambro1970: It's a maximum of 1 foreign-flag player on boards 1-4. Isle of Man has two foreign-flag players on boards 3 and 4. The player on board 4 is therefore irregular and his/her games are counted as lost.
Still, given the overall result of this match, this is irrelevant.
Round 3 forfeit results:
- New Delhi vs Aberdeen 0-1
- Venezia vs Thessaloniki 0-1
- Isle of Man vs Istanbul 1-0
Forfeited matches/challenges may be cancelled.
@RainPiper & @ Chambro1970
just noticed this thread - I was not aware of this "foreign-flag player" rule, until now.
from above comments, it seems I need to make sure IOM games have only 1 "foreign-flag player" on boards 1-4 & another 1 "foreign-flag players" on boards 5-8.
as IOM usually have to field 5 players per game, 5th board player can be "foreign-flag player".
have I got this right & how as IOM team admin do I enforce/ensure this?
never removed a player from a game before, but take it that's what I have to do?
@dfhunter:
Your interpretation is correct: in a five-player-team two foreign-flag-players are allowed: one on boards 1-4 and the second on board 5.
You can either remove the player yourself from your team. Or (preferably) exchange messages with the respective player and explain him/her the rules, so that s/he can take them into account the next time him/herself.
ps - thinking about how to enforce this rule, players can join a game up to the start time/day.
to remove/ban players on last day is asking for problems, most players are only online to play & don't read rules etc..
