Do you know the procedure how players become world champions? The Challenger has to play a match with the current World Champion (currently Magnus Carlsen). But how to define the challenger?
For these purposes FIDE conducts the Candidates Tournament, an eight-player double-round robin tournament. FIDE chooses 8 well-performing GMs (according to their algorithm) from the last year and invites them, of course, excluding Magnus Carlsen. This year Candidates Tournament was played in Yekaterinburg, Russia. However, originally it was scheduled for the dates from 15 March to 5 April 2020, but the tournament was halted at the halfway point on 26 March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The second half of tournament was played between 19 April and 27 April 2021, also in Yekaterinburg.
Ian Nepomniachtchi is the winner and in November he challenges Magnus Carlsen to fight for the World Championship.
These weeks I was quite busy with my current students and courses preparation, however, I couldn’t miss such an event and analyzed many of the games played there. And I decided to share this analysis with you. That’s why I decided to conduct the webinar devoted to this tournament and named it - 80th webinar“Learn from Ian Nepomniachtchi” where I’ll explain what you can learn from Ian Nepomniachtchi’s games. And I’m glad to welcome you to this webinar!
Join the webinar, learn from the strongest GMs of our days and improve your chess performance!
The webinar starts on Sunday (2nd of May) at 9 a.m. (EDT), 2 p.m. (GMT), 5 p.m. (Moscow time). This webinar is free.
NOTE! There will be no recording of this webinar available. If you want to learn how to improve your ability to attack – register and come to the webinar LIVE!
