In week 6, we had 4 members who tied for the most correct predictions. By contest rules, we then applied tie-breakers to determine the weekly winner.
Our first tie breaker is to determine which member's match points came closest to those scored in the actual U.S.C.L. matches. Listed below are the results of the first tie-breaker. We started by listing the League match results: Game number; Team(s) that won (or tied); and points scored (points in parentheses). This is followed by each member's match predictions: Game number; followed by points predicted (points in parentheses).
U.S.C.L. results in week 6 - 1. MIA - (2.5), 2. DAL - (3), 3. CHI - (2.5), 4. LA/MAN Tie - (2), 5. NE - (3.5), 6. BOS - (2.5), 7. SEA - (3.5), 8. BAL - (2.5) = 22 points
meanpc - 1. (2), 2. (3), 3. (2.5), 4. (2.5), 5. (4), 6. (2.5), 7. (3), 8. (2.5) = 22 pts.
WanderingWinder - 1. (2.5), 2. (3), 3. (2.5), 4. (2.5), 5. (3), 6. (2.5), 7. (2.5), 8. (2.5) = 21 pts.
IM ACEChess - 1. (2.5), 2. (3), 3. (2.5), 4. (2), 5. (2.5), 6. (2.5), 7. (3), 8. (2.5) = 20.5 pts.
nimzo5 - 1. (2), 2. (3), 3. (2.5), 4. (2), 5. (3), 6. (2.5), 7. (2.5), 8. (2.5) = 20 pts.
The Week 6 Winner is: meanpc! Congratulations!
Awesome!
Thanks for running this contest William - a brilliant idea to get people interested in the USCL. Looking forward to next week.
I glanced through all the games from the week, and wanted to post a few of the more interesting ones I noticed.
IM Shankland impressed me with this one:
I was meaning to give you congrats earlier meanpc, but better late than never, I'll just follow your picks from now on
As for myself, I need to get some of Chris Berman's "Swami Says" mojo. 1 outta 4, not the kind of way I would like my fortune telling career to start.
I was observing some of the games you listed last night. I agree that IM Sam Shankland's game was impressive (from my limited knowledge). He seemed to be able to have good control of the center, and had an answer for everything Finegold seemed to throw his way.
Not sure what happened with the NE/STL game you listed.
GM Larry Christiansen is really an amazing player from what I can tell. In doing research while getting this group going, his name comes up again and again. There is a quote from GM Charbonneau from the 2005 game of the year that made me laugh: "In any case, I have to say preparing for a game with Larry is the easiest thing I have ever done. I create a tree in chessbase, I see he plays every move imaginable, and I'm done."
