Weekly Puzzle

Interesting puzzle.  It really shows the power of a passed pawn, especially at the sixth rank.

After 1. Rxe1 Qxe1 2. d7 Qd8, I was looking for a forced mate (with 3. Qd6+, or Be6+, but Black seems to be able to fend it off with 3. ...Ne7.  Still not a comfortable position for Black.

Has anyone found a forced mate?

What if  the king takes the rook?

That's a good point.  I thought it was because of Re1+, but after Kf8, it seems like black can hold onto his queen.

You are diffently right, black missed and opportunity to kill with the king anticipating (21. Re1+, Kd8, 22.Qd8#) or alternatively (21. Re1+, Kf8) and black King is pinned, with Queen pinned too.

I did it

I had played this option out too, but did not want to be left with a bishop against a rook. Not impossible, but I cut my loses early
