What about creating a Catholic Chess Club discord server?

Hi,
I know that Discord's been getting much popularity recently and I thought that maybe you'd be interested in joining a Catholic Chess Club server where we could talk about chess, our faith, share our knowledge/expericene etc.

Would you be down for it?

Garbeyes

Yes, I am, great idea

abletms

Not Catholic, However, I would support a platform where Christians are safe to talk and interact

Garbeyes

In any case, I suppose the channel will be mostly about chess and our chess club issues.

I am personally Catholic and have no problems (even love it) to discuss Catholic stuff (arguably the one and only church founded by Jesus, turned by His will into His mystical body, and central in His plan for salvation), but I understand this is primarily a chess club, and, for example, whether 1.e4 is the strongest first move could already be controversial enough!

Blessed day to all!

Why not Catholic?

Garbeyes

@Soob, ...maybe because of people like us.

Kidding apart, maybe you can say first why Catholic

Soob

Cause there are tons of Christian/Catholic discord servers out there. But this could be a good place where you could combine both Chess and Catholics

One question could be, why the bishop is called the bishop in English. In Spanish, for example, is called Alfil, which apparently came from the Arabs, who brought it from the Persians, which meant the elephant (al pil, or so). How is it in Polish? Why Bishop in English?

That's a great question and there's no simple answer to that. I am a linguist by training and I've been trying to figure it out but there are several theories about it

Why not Catholic?

Was, Raised in Europe and migrated to the US in 1976. The church in the little town that was Catholic was terrible. Was a KOC 4th and also a CYA teacher. This church was what I would call Anti-Catholic. Went to a different church and never decided to go back. Been 40 years.

quite typical, the main problem with the Catholic Church is us Catholics ourselves. we have been given a treasure, the mystical body of Christ, and many make a mess of it. The Passion of our Lord never seems to stop

SprytusFirst

That's OK with me, it could be interesting.

Blackbolt911

What is discord?

HonkHonkAmGoose

Its Ok with me please post how to get in but if it gets out of hand or offtopic I would close I mean its called catholic chess club not cristian chess club

I thought Bobby Fischer settled the e4 question.
