Funny. A few years ago I also thought of such a piece. Wanted to call it Archer.
While I don’t necessarily have a single favourite, there are a some that I like more than others such as the archbishop (because you can actually force checkmate with it and it bothers me that on the musketeer chess site a king and archbishop (along with other pieces) endgame is automatically considered a draw), the general (King + Knight), the amazon (because it’s very strong), the lion from large shogi variants (because it can capture without moving and in certain situations is even stronger than the amazon), the banner from Manchu chess and a lot of pieces in large shogi variants which I think are cool such as the thunderclap (which moves as a wazir 5 times).
I know that it’s most likely that nobody will read this, but I hope my rambling has inspired you to make a variant or piece you will like or introduced you to something you found interesting.
I think it’s a bit unfair that I haven’t said this on other forums, but to everybody ever, I wish you well.
Queen
captures by shooting, range up to 1 or 2 squares in any direction , more than 1 or 2 squares and a piece has to be attacking it or adjacent to it
