Ok, this is my last post.

There are several things being discussed here.... but to the matter of whether or not Stalling, as defined by Chess.com (and by me in my early posts) is against the rules. IT CLEARLY IS!

Whether you report it or not is up to the individual, and maybe some don't think it's poor sportsmanship, rude, being a jerk or whatever.... but it is against the rules regardless.

Read the link that was posted if you have any doubt.

Still, issue is taken here. There is a time control for a reason.

Avatar of The_Vorpal_Blade

The time control is your allotted time to "Play".... not stall or refuse to resign in a lost position... as long as you're playing there is no issue regardless of how much time you take. No one (at least not me) is complaining about some one using all there time. (Or trying to flag me, or anything else as long as they are playing) The issue is when they are no longer playing, and just won't move. That is stalling, it is against the rules, and I always report it. I see it fairly often in 5-5 blitz so it's not that painful to wait for the clock but anytime it happens I block and report.

So, though you take issue, there is a rule on stalling, it is defined, and if you are purposefully letting the clock run simply to stall or lose on time, it is against the rules and repeated abuse of this rule will get you account closed by chess.com

What about not responding to a draw request the opponent made on their own time?
It's kinda funny actually. I usually receive draw requests when my opponent is losing.

Avatar of The_Vorpal_Blade

I see that a lot as well..... They hang a queen on move 7 and offer a draw.... I just finish the game, but I block them afterwards. Not against the rules, but poor sportsmanship. There are way to many people that enjoy playing, are good sports, and play by the rules to mess with those that don't.

Avatar of ljvankuiken

I continue the game as well but do not respond to the draw request and wait for their next move.

Dont resign! thats exactly what they want you to do. just report them. If you dont have time then just play blitz instead of rapid.

If your opponent is stalling, (or rage quitting), then I would hit the reload button on your browser. Sometimes chess.com doesn't transmit your opponent's move and you could find that your opponent has already moved and it was your clock that was running.

People who complain about stuff like this are so pathetic.

You agreed to the time control, how they use it is not your concern. If they just let time run out: they lose. If you weren't prepared to sit there for the entirety of the time on their clock you shouldn't have agreed to that time control, simple as that.

Stop whining, stop crying, stop spewing nonsense about "bad sportsmanship." Sit quietly, wait for time to run out.

The site defines stalling as bad sportsmanship.

Avatar of The_Vorpal_Blade

@jawineholt It's rude, inconsiderate, poor sportsmanship and above all against the rules.

Yes, a person agrees to a certain time control when they start a game, and the other person agrees to play by the rules, which includes not stalling.

It's not complaining.. it's simply the fact. It's called manners, and it's just common curiosity to behave with a certain amount of respect and decorum when you play. I would expect it if we played in person and I expect it when we play online.

It's really not.

You agreed to a certain time control, so you agreed to sit there through it if need be. Stop complaining, stop whining, stop crying. Sit quietly, wait for time to run out.

Cool story, that doesn't mean it actually is. Fail.

@jawineholt  You either didn't read my post, or just don't care. (If the latter you are a part of the problem. If you are stalling you are breaking the rules... the time control has nothing to do with it.... As I said, When I play I agree to a time control and the person I play against agrees to play by the rules... if he doesn't, he's at least a jerk and at worst a cheat.... and should be regarded as such. Which means, reported and blocked.

Now perhaps you don't care about sportsmanship or any such thing.... fine... But Stalling is actually against the rules... People that do it and are reported get warned by Chess.com and if they continue their account gets closed. That's a fact.

No, I definitely read your post. You're on this post complaining, whining and crying about it. Claiming "it's not complaining" doesn't change the fact it absolutely is.

I've already explained why you're wrong, and done so in such a way that a toddler could understand. If you're still confused: reread, sound out the words as often as need be, you'll get it one day...I believe in you.

So I'll say it one more time:

People who complain about stuff like this are so pathetic.

No you didn't explain anything.... You failed in every post to address the issue... it is in fact against the rules... And expecting a person to play by the rules, is what this is about. (And if you are playing here you have agreed to follow those rules, including the one about not stalling)

Nothing more.... if you aren't willing to play by the rules, then you are a cheat... it's that simple.

It's not complaining... it's just stating a fact. There are rules, some follow them some don't.

So if you want to discuss the Rule on stalling I'd be happy too.... but currently you're just trolling.

Actually I did explain very well, more than once. Its ok, I didn't figure you for having excellent reading comprehension so I'm not surprised.

Try rereading as many times as you need. Sound out the big words slowly, get an adult to help, you can do it! lmao

Stop whining, stop complaining, stop crying, stop spewing nonsense about "bad sportsmanship." Sit quietly, wait for time to run out.

It appears you have a problem with projection. RULES is the word you're looking for... that's the one I keep using.

So you aren't able to actually refute anything I said? Next time just say that, boomer, and save some time. Everything I've said still stands, you've given no rebuttal for the facts I've given.

Avatar of The_Vorpal_Blade

Ok, I'm not sure if you really believe what you're posting or not.... I have written the word Rules in every post I've made... And perhaps I've missed it in my old age... but I don't remember you addressing that issue even once.  But... I'm sure you're right. You have fully refuted the issue of the rules, and the fact that everyone agrees to play by them. And of course you're correct about sportsmanship and decorum, those are so, last century. Who needs manners these days. I know when I'm beat. Good game. I resign. (With plenty of time left on the clock happy.png )

Avatar of Mouselip

It is evident by the insults lacing his posts that decorum is not his strong suit. Best to just ignore.
