What's your IQ?

My IQ is 162 and I am quite curious about what other players in the chess community have scored. Thank you for any responses given.

Nice score!

That was my first from 60 years ago. I would score higher now, but the thing is that you "improve" with practice, which is not the point of the test in the first place.

I am not young, as you might guess. But I love Math and Chess, and Music. The three are good for the brain.

Avatar of Murphy819

That's true. I would think that if you took them far enough apart though you would probably be fine. I would test again now and see what you get.

Avatar of Murphy819

I love all three of those things as well. I'm 14 though.

I get higher now, but as I said the test is best and most accurate on the young when they have not seen one before.

I suggest to you that you use your gift wisely, as a high IQ is an advantage, but talent has to be backed up by hard work and study.

Thank you for the advice.

My mom never wanted me to take an IQ test because she knew I was naturally above average. if I took an IQ test but didn't get the results I expected, I would either be really sad(if it was below expectations) or too arrogant(higher than expectations), so she avoided it. Plus accurate IQ tests in person cost >$500.

I took one an IQ test in middle school, but, similar to @dearprince's situation, my parents suggested I not look at the scores, so I'm in the dark. happy.png

IQ is deeply flawed and at the least, it is racially biased. It can be fun to do a personality assessment, but IQ is still just a personality quiz. IQ has limited value to measure societal upbringing, specialized knowledge, life experience, wisdom, emotional intelligence and all the myriad 'smarts' someone might have for any given task or situation. And that's before considering hard work as a far more valuable and noble goal than being smart.
And consensus global #2 Hikaru Nakamura famously scored 100 on an IQ test, average. So IQ is probably just as irrelevant a measure of chess smarts as it is a measure of any other type of smarts. (in case you think this is sour grapes, I got a flattering score the various times I've had to take it.)

I have heard your take before. It is not universally shared, sad for your sake, to say.

What is a good IQ test that is not biased in your opinion?

Avatar of Murphy819

IQ is an excellent way to measure the academic potential of a person specifically in the areas of language, mathematics, and pattern recognition. I personally disagree with your view that IQ is a personality test, but I do think that other forms of human smarts such as emotional intelligence are vastly more important and will get you further in life then a high IQ will. In the you end, IQ is one of many forms of intelligence that a human can exhibit, and no one intelligence is necessarily more important than another because all of them come together to allow our society to function as it does. Thank you for sharing your opinion Paingloss.

134, but it probably should have been higher.

ACT/SAT/GRE or GMAT I was genius.

For sure.

I had a girlfriend once who was 165 or so. She said if they had creativity IQ I'd be a profound genius at it.

165 is quite ancient.
