@strangequark, I am sure I mostly agree, but would point out that it is my belief about someone else's intentions, not their intent, that might cause a change in my actions. This belief I view as no more than a certain electrochemical pattern in my neurons ( influenced no doubt by my observations of other people). So I see no non-physical causative agent here.
