Wafer (from German Waffel) is a type of thin dry cookie with an imprint on the surface. Baked from whipped liquid dough in special forms. The dough consists of flour, eggs, sugar (in sweet waffles) and cream.

Pancakes, mlyn, polab. mlync, ukr. mlynets is a Russian dish baked from liquid yeast dough in a frying pan.

These are completely different dishes in taste, sensation, possible filling, etc. and probably preference depends on the region and traditions

While camping, I had a dream wherein I was driving north from a camping site and stopped at a breakfast site that had only two items—pancakes and waffles. Nonetheless, we ordered breakfast. Normally, I would not order either one. Looking out the window of the restaurant, we saw a problem with the car. My child was pointing a gun (BB or .22) out the window (my youngest is in his 30s, so I don’t know how he appeared as a child left in the car while we went in to eat breakfast). The rest of the dream was spent discussing with the police how I could get back the guns they had seized. This was two weeks before the beginning of deer season and they took my deer rifle.

Oddly, the dream took place in Idaho (we were camping in eastern Washington), a state that has very few gun laws. No where would it be less likely to have guns confiscated by the police.

The horror of choosing between pancakes and waffles still lingers, however.

Long time ago, my family’s normal Sunday breakfast was pancakes made with Krusteaz whole wheat pancake mix and lots of fresh or frozen blueberries. Of course, we used real butter and genuine maple syrup.

Long time before that, I spent the bulk of my paper route profits on Belgian waffles (thick waffles with strawberries and whipped cream) at Expo ‘74, the World’s Fair in my city.

That I no longer care for either one stems mostly from health concerns. Ever since the Neolithic Agricultural Revolution 6-12,000 years ago, subsistence on grains—wheat, corn, and rice—has been the source of most human health problems. My breakfast now consists of fresh fruits, sometimes yogurt or cottage cheese, and mostly eggs and egg dishes, such as the quiche I’ll be making tomorrow—eggs, cheese, spinach, sausage, onions, jalapeños, garlic, heavy cream.

When I was young, I could thrive even eating junk. Now, I’m careful with carbohydrates, the main ingredient in promoting obesity and heart disease (the leading cause of death).
