Who gets what when the points are same?

If two players have the same points at the end of a game, how is their finishing place determined?

I just finished a game with 26 points and another player who was checkmated before me also had 26 points, but for some reason the game awarded him 2nd place while I got 3rd place.

This is unfair! I stayed undefeated longer than the other player so I should be the one to get 2nd.

Nonono. You and the other guy both were 200 rating more than the rest of the table, so the expectation for you guys to gain rating is to finish better than tied second. The formula takes into account the rating and the individual’s rating deviation, not just the Win Number.
