I'd go:
Alistair Cook (C)
David Warner
Steve Smith
Virat Kohli
Joe Root
AB de Villiers (K) or maybe Sangakkara
Shakib Al Hasan
Vernon Philander
Dale Steyn
Jimmy Anderson
Rangana Herath
I'd go:
Alistair Cook (C)
David Warner
Steve Smith
Virat Kohli
Joe Root
AB de Villiers (K) or maybe Sangakkara
Shakib Al Hasan
Vernon Philander
Dale Steyn
Jimmy Anderson
Rangana Herath
Alistair Cook
Chris Rogers/Warner after Rogers retires
Steve Smith
AB de Villiers
Sangakarra/Root after Sangakarra retires
Shakib Al Hasan as my all rounder
Sarfez Ahmed as my wicker keeper
Dale Steyn
Jimmy Anderson
Trent Boult
Yasir Shah as my spinner
Considering the imminent retirements of Rogers and Sangakarra I've given cover for them. The batsmen otherwise pretty much picked themselves on form/history. The only ones I wish I could have slotted in are Azhar Ali or Younis Khan.
The toughest thing with a current squad is picking a 3rd seamer to compliment Anderson and Steyn, it was tough to choose between Starc, Boult, Southee and Broad. A spinner was also difficult given Ajmal and Herath are both in terrible form and on the verge of leaving cricket. Yasir Shah, Ashwin and Lyon were who I was tossing up between, given I picked Al Hasan as an all rounder I've got good cover for spin.
I went Philander as a third seamer partly for his runs, but I'll admit the four you named are arguably better bowlers, I'd probably also go Boult - the batting looks strong enough anyway! Spinner I really wasn't sure, there's no stand out spinners right now really, but Shakib I agreed with as good cover. Keeper was tough, for me AB, but 6 in the order is low for him, same with Sanga. Kohli is a doubt in my side due to poor form too, and I'd be tempted to put in Angelo Mathews somewhere for strong batting and a little more bowling.
For tests:
1. David Warner
2. Brendon McCullum
3. Kumar Sangakkara
4. Younis Khan
5/6. Michael Clarke (C)
5/6. A.B De Villiers
7. BJ Watling (Wk)
8. Mitchell Johnson
9. Dale Steyn
10. James Anderson
11. Nathon Lyon
12th man: Hashim Amla
I thought for a long time about Amla, but I decided that Younis Khan had been too classy for too long to ignore. I'll admit that the main reason that I haven't included Steve Smith is because I'm still upset by how he got out yesterday
but I'll happily back Michael Clarke in his place even when he's this far out of form. McCullum and Warner would make for some entertaining cricket at the top (although the solidity of the middle order and the lack of quality openers at the moment are the main reason I'd go for such an explosive opening partnership), but my favourite part is definitely the bowling attack... The idea of Steyn, Johnson and Anderson all on the same pitch is just mouth watering, while Lyon has shown for years that he plays the supporting role extremely well.
The only thing I'm really unhappy about is the lack of a sturdy fifth bowling option- De Villiers and Clarke aren't exactly brilliant with the ball but you have to make some sacrifices...
1. Kusal Perera
2. Brendan Mccullum
3.Kumar Sangakkara/Shane Watson(after KUMAR retires)
4. Ab De Villiers
5.Shakib Al Hasan
6.Ms Dhoni
7.Kieron Pollard
8. Ravichandran Ashwin
9.James Anderson
10.Lasith Malinga
11.Zulfiqar Babar
Wow, that's an seriously aggressive team! Could probably beat anyone in ODIs...
If I were to pick an ODI/t20 team, I'd probably go:
Warner/Gayle
McCullum
Amla now Sangakkara has gone, possibly Kohli in t20
de Villiers
Roooooooooot
Perera/Buttler
Shakib Al Hasan
Afridi (though I think he's well past his peak now sadly)
Russell (the least safe, picked ahead of Steyn for his aggressive batting)
Narine
Anderson/Malinga for t20
Tried also including at least one from each nation, but no Zimbabwean has yet proved themselves quite worthy of selection, especially as many of the best quit to play county cricket. Possibly Ervine/Masakadza but I have no idea, Jarvis and Taylor recently quit and arguably Gary Ballance as another option. I was quite surprised how easy it was to find one or two standout players from each nation and fit them in, my team could do with another all rounder who can bat up the order so it has 6 bowlers (Stokes would probably be my choice in a few years) but realistically this team bats down to no. 9 and can't be too bad if I've omitted Steyn!
Nasser Hussain picked his world XI from current players yesterday, and I have to admit it looks incredible:
1. David Warner
2. Hashim Amla
3. Kane Williamson
4. Virat Kohli
5. Steve Smith
6. Joe Root
7. A.B. De Villiers
8. Mitchell Johnson
9. Dale Steyn
10. James Anderson
11. Rangana Herath
I'm a little unconvinced by having Amla open the batting in tests (although he does the job very well in ODIs) but numbers 3-7 look incredible. Any team with Root all the way down at 6 and De Villiers at 7 must be doing something right... The only other question is whether De Villiers would still be a viable keeping option but even with that in mind the batting advantages would probably be worth it.
In test
1.David Warner
2.Alastair Cook
3.Hashim Amla
4.Virat Kohli
5.Joe Root
6.Angelo Mathews
7.AB De Villiers
8.Ravindra Jadeja
9.Mitchell Stark
10.Tim Southee
11.Nathan Lyon
I'd open with a couple of big hitters, probably Tal and Morphy.
For the lower order I'd have to go with the phenomenal talents of Fischer, Kasparov and Capablanca.
Alekhine, Lasker and Steinitz should cover the middle order, and for a solid, dependable tail I'd pick Petrosian, Spassky and Botvinnik.
Unbeatable!

The team i picked in the ipls fantasy league was
1.Gautam Gambihr
2.Nitish Rana
3.Virat Kholi
4.Ajinkya Rahane
5.AB de Villiers
6.Hardik Pandya
7.Ravindra Jadeja
8.Yuvraj Singh

Instead of picking the stat wise best players i picked best players from teams and players who have done well recently. Nitish Rana is doing well but was very cheap.
who would you pick from any current international to be in your wolrld 11
