Why a Chess.com V2 club? Please read...

Erik sent me an e-mail giving the URL. It turns out it's not under "Profile" but under "My Account."

Still doesn't seem to have a way of sending *only* finished games (and alerts if I'm about to run out of time), though.

Rogue_King wrote in venue's forum: ............Really the only issue I have in v3 is that the study plans are no longer listed in the top tab and you have to go through a couple steps to finally find them, when they are probably the best training feature on the site besides the videos.

My experience from V3

is not only that v3 is slow, but it makes you act slow too because you don't get the information at a glance anymore, it happens everywhere,  where to start/  from the chess pieces which have gone from the game that are below the usernames and you cannot compare them?

from the time in the tactics Trainer?  that green bar with the time remaining and the average time of the problem is completely missing from V3 there is only a light grey chronometer somewhere , the bar with the on-line members of the team which i just discovered are missing too and you have to scroll 3 pages to find who's on-line? - and when you finally get an idea noone is on-line anymore?

you cannot see anything at a glance in V3 --- the game explorer? which instead of 12 moves it shows you only 4 and you need to scroll to view the rest ? nothing at a glance

Even when you play live chess you have to memorise the pieces are lost, you can't compare at a glance, you never know if you are up or down a pawn or a piece there

This instantaneously roll of information in V2 is the key of the serious downgrade in V3 that makes it totally unfriendly especially to the members who have learned to play in V2 like me, and if you add the icons, the scrolling and the hovering you may have got where the problem lies and how slow it can be.

Actually it is a combination of vital facilities they are missing from every section, plus the difficulty to get the remaining informations at a glance, plus the icons in place of words plus the scrolling and hovering, plus the double clicks in certain simple functions, like log off etc plus the slowness make a very bad mixture

I think it couldn't be worse and that is really a tour de force

But is not only that you cannot get the information at a glance anymore, is even worst because the very best of good things are mostly missing

Like the table of related openings from the game explorer, like the text on ieroglyphical grey icons, even every color is missing only the light invisible grey, the most charming in TT which was that green bar of the time remaining which was giving you that extra feeling of solving the problem in time is missing, like the 3 bars with online members in your team to see at a glance who is on-line

like the colorful signal for 960chess in your current games for example, so that you know that you play 2 or 3 games of chess960  or like the best game from the homepage, (smth special for every player)

Like that message box in friend's invite that we have to live without it because only 5% were using it. This is the spirit dude, all these things will be missing only because they don't care about the people who were using them and they are asking for them to be fixed.

It seems that from every single page the most charming detail must always be missing or not viewable at a glance, this is why I just simply want V2 back or nothingCool

Even my cool smiley is the only smiley missing from that huge new collection which all looks the same (all the smileys in v2 are better) - cool smiley is missing either because noone feels cool with V3 or simply because that was the best smiley and this is why it should be the one which is missing"  ---

I guess this is why they don't care if all the people like us who have built this site creating things and spending our valuable time&money will be missing.  Cause it seems to be the new site's policy --  that the "best thing must always be missing"

V3 is certainly a change but is not a change in the direction of progress. You cannot speak about progress in a chess site when you downgrade all the best chess features

I still don't know if V3 has backward compatibility because noone answers...

I copy from wikipedia:  Backward compatibility is a property of a system, product, or technology that allows for interoperability with an older legacy system, or with input designed for such a system, especially in telecommunications and computing. Backward compatibility is sometimes abbreviated to BC, or called downward compatibility.[1] Modifying a system in a way that does not allow backward compatibility is sometimes called "breaking" backward compatibility.[2] A complementary concept is forward compatibility, which is a design philosophy, usually based on open standards, that strives for methods that will continue to work with newer and future products. Design that is forward-compatible usually has a roadmap for compatibility with future standards and products

Compiler backward compatibility may refer to the ability of a compiler of a newer version of the language to accept programs or data that worked under the previous version.

A data format is said to be backward compatible with its predecessor if every message or file that is valid under the old format is also valid, and retains its meaning, under the new

OK, today I was logged in to v3 instead of to v2 (not through any special effort of my own; it just happened that way), and I'm looking around a bit.

I noticed that on my Home page, the Play option has a nice menu, including various speed chess time controls, that I imagine anyone who played Live Chess would appreciate.  (I don't, but I still think it looks good.)

I also noticed that Vote Chess Updates are now separate from Club Activity. Unfortunately, *comments within a Vote Chess game* still show up with forum posts. I hope that that will be changed.

I also noticed that now, there's a listing of notes from my groups ("clubs"--why?) and of new forum topics in those groups. The new forum topics, especially, are a nice touch. However.... If you belong to a lot of groups, you'll be inundated by new notes. Just look at my Home page to see what I mean. And I don't want to see new notes unless I go to the group to look at them. It would make more sense to have a "New group notes" option and a "New forum topics" option, and then, if I clicked either one, I could see the new notes and new forum topics, but if I didn't, they wouldn't flood my...I'm not even sure what to call it. My list of new stuff? I'd especially like to see my list of new forum posts in threads I'm following show up as its own list. I care about that one. I don't care about notes, unless somebody e-mails me that there's a problem with a user's use of them in one of my groups.

Oh, and I tried going to Settings and to Alerts and Emails, but I didn't see a way to separate Notes from anything else.

I seem to be unable to delete moves when creating a diagram to show an analysis variation in Vote Chess.

A minor annoyance:

One thing that happens fairly frequently is that the right bar--the one you slide to move up and down the page--fails to show up. This happens sometimes in Vote Chess. Then I click on the page and hit the up arrow, and then it appears and I can scroll up. But hitting the up arrow also sets the board to the beginning position, so I then have to go to the move list and click on the last move to get the position back.

(1) Can we please get rid of the AutoCorrect in the text editor that won't let me type Erik's username uncapitalized?

(2) The next six posts of mine will be screenshots of what I saw when I logged in a few minutes ago. I promised jdcannon I'd give him screenshots the next time it happened. They are images of the page I saw, from top to bottom (excluding the very bottom, which was just a few more dots extending the bottom of the last screenshot).

OK, I've just logged back on after logging off. I was looking at a discussion thread in Open Discussion when I found that its page numbers and forward and back arrows, at the top of the page, didn't work. I had to go back to the forum page and then return to the discussion thread. Then, I found that the page I wanted to look at didn't fully load. The right-hand scroll bar didn't show up, and when I clicked on the page and scrolled down, only part of the page showed up. Below a certain point, all there was was gray.

I never had either of those happen in v2 before v3 came into existence. Now, it's happening both in v3 and in v2.

It would be nice, in Tactics Trainer ("Tactics"--who thought that name was an improvement?), to have the letters across the bottom of the board back. They were useful in telling at a glance which color I was playing--they were useful in orienting myself with each new problem.

Please get rid of the text editor's new Autocorrect feature. It won't let me write uncapitalized usernames without capitalizing them.

I find that when making a diagram in Vote Chess, not only does there seem to be no way of deleting moves (which means I can't analyze as I go along while creating the diagram and get rid of whatever doesn't work well), but the print within analysis variations (inside parentheses) is no longer different from the print in the main line. This is not good. This is one of those seeing-things-at-a-glance matters someone--I think Bellerophontis--was talking about.

I just went over a game of one of my students. I noticed there were no names at the top and bottom of the board. I suppose the little tiny white pieces near my student's name were supposed to indicate which color she had. But here again, we have a seeing-things-at-a-glance issue. Even making the board bigger makes it harder to take the whole position in at once. <Sigh>

I wish I knew how the decisions to make changes were made. They sure weren't the decisions I'd have made.

I do like being able to see the number of people taking part in a particular Vote Chess game in my list of Vote Chess games. I don't know whether that's a change or not, but I like that.
