why a dragonexpert chooses for the English

Hi,

as the siciliandragon is the only variation I know well (I have beaten players around the 2000 mark with it), I have trouble playing all the rest.(with trouble I mean that I am not comfortable and at ease especially playing against strong players).

Another problem is what to open with when I'm white.

so I stumbled on the English that can lead to 2 different very similar to the sicilian dragon.

1. the Maroczy Bind

2.the reversed dragon

if I can get into these 2 variations I am happy.(altough I still have to learn the reversed dragon).

As the English opening gives the possibility to a vast amount of transpositionings I am going to learn how to transpose from C4 into these positions.

so I want to dedicate this thread to English lines that have some connection to the Sicilian Dragon

tnx for the positve reactions.

@Hapahauli: I don't know if the game I posted is a good example (to learn regarding Englishdragon material) because me and my opponent made dubious moves, but I am appreciating your effortCool.I am playing currently 5 English games against high rated opponents, these would be very interesting I believe as I put much time in them.

@ccssii:I believe that the move d5 (from black) is critical to get into the reversed lines and the move d4 (from white) is critical to get into the marozcy bind lines.so or you have to play these moves if you have th chance, or your opponent has to play them. You can get your opponent to play these moves by tempting him.(like in post#2 , the second diagram where my opponent played d4 only on move6).

another important factor is the fianchettoing , it is crucial that the one playing with the dragon plays it (g6 for black in the normal Marozcy and g3 for white in the reversed). That is something I cannot tempt my opponent to play but I believe these moves are very frequent in the English opening.
