why do people want admin and stuff so much

I don't really understand this. I get that you can promote and demote people and invite others... but besides that, there isn't really a function of admins that makes it better than a normal member.

I suppose it's like climbing the corporate ladder, with more prestige the higher up you are, but I've never known any corporation that gave out positions like halloween candy.

I agree I don't like responsibility

🤷‍♂️ Are you referencing what’s been going on in the admin club? Lol

YES I AM

why do y'all care so much

like half of you guys don't even post much stuff and when you do it's usually some blitz game that you annotated and you call it an "educational post"

I'm sorry but annotating your own online game I would not classify as educational. Annotating your own game is a self-improvement method and subjecting said analysis to other people for accuracy checks is educational to you and only you. And maybe a few people who can learn something from your game, but I would not say it is educational.

I mean, you can try, and I'm not saying I haven't tried before, but at the end of the day it's just you annotating your own game partly to show off and partly to improve.

ig its cause viz has advertised this place as a heaven for chess players to learn, why do you think people would want to be a admin immediately? its beginners and masters, the godly place of the mighty viz and all his workers making a community for playings to learn and get along with the one goal of promoting chess healthily and steadily with fun. really from a parent type of view it would make me think "hey my kid likes chess and he wants to help"

Ummm this isn’t about admin roles. This is about what Viznik did and said last night

Whoever is organizing the tournaments deserves admin. Whoever posted those common opening trap themes deserves admin (I forgot your username I'm so sorry but I don't want to check). I can't really think of anything else off the top of my head besides the obvious people (keseto, of course).

honestly speaking i fully agree, your posts are the only ones i really give a lot of attention to and idk why but its just that flair you add and all the tournaments with cool teaching that makes it actually educational and fun to read. i like many of the tactical positions, how you navigate through them and just try to make it fun for others here to understand. i am not saying nimzo doesnt do as well but you just make it so much better even if not many agree

I personally consider it a status symbol

such as "this person was active enough and liked enough that he was promoted to this office and brought into the trusted circle of the owner"

I don't keep up. Then this was what was happening in the admin club about a few weeks ago where people were saying "x deserves admin y deserves admin". In any case I just post whatever I was feeling for the day. Usually it's chess related.

I also know that nobody asked but I consider the thinking method most important in chess, better than tactics or strategy or anything else. Because you can tell someone to stop hanging pieces, to learn pattern recognition, but how do you teach them to spot the fork in an unfamiliar position? Of course, it's pattern recognition, but a strong player like you or me could do it immediately while a 900 might take longer, or not even see it.

So I always try to show each step of the thinking leading up to the conclusion. Even the really obvious ones. Probably a personal trauma of sorts, but I improved really fast in chess when I suddenly realized that checkmate wins the game. With this realization I concluded that no matter how much material you have, it doesn't matter if you get checkmated.

Really obvious, right? But I learned this from doing 900 rated puzzles. Which usually have you down 20 points in material.

They want power

to demote people, yes those kinds of people exist. Probably because they've never really had much power. I wouldn't trust myself to go to college and have all my stuff straightened out.

honestly i really appreciate that, if it were me when i was first on the site confused or just not really knowing stuff i would always want to understand things simplistic as possible and from a great player like you as well from your experience and skills. of course i wont lie and admit that i probably like watching videos more but ever since i started blogging i began to learn and appreciate the ideas of annotating and actually understanding what the reader sees in his thought process. some would say its meaningless and videos are much easier to understand but over time eh you could get used to it and see that "hey maybe this guy aint a bad coach after all" and you just really start having fun from one good writer which is special
