I am a Dutch player, so I'd play 1...f5. Of course, there are many funny lines where White doesn't play d4 and I'd probably be a little lost.

In many lines where White fianchettoes, I like to blunt the bishop with ...c6. It takes away the knight's best square, but he can always develop slowly, probably to d7 and then to b6.

3...Be7 seems passive, although it's tough to say where the bishop belongs.

I haven't played either side of the English in a long time. However, I remember preferring a line for Black where he plays Nf6 early on, White hits the knight with e5, and the knight immediately goes back to g8. It looks silly, yet it's book moves.

Are you familiar with this line? I wouldn't mind seeing some analysis on that.

Hm. I can think of a few things I'd do to counter 1. c4.
