if boards cost $10, then a 2000 boards would still cost $20000. Plus they can get damaged, stolen, etc. It's also going to be hard to transport 2000 boards around from big tourneys

You can also just buy your own pieces anyways. It's very little money compared to an entry fee of one singular tournament

then how does the Las Vegas Chess Festival get brand new sets every year even though they only have 1 tournament per year? the CCA has many events and most likely has lots of money but can't buy some boards? they don't have to buy boards every tournament or year, but use the same boards

Ever try transporting hundreds of boards and pieces from New York to Florida, back to New York, then to Illinois, back to New York, then to California and back to New York? The alternative is buying enough chess sets in every state/region and paying for storage.

The chess sets at National Open are part of the chess vendor contract. Only the largest CCA events have a vendor (book store). By the way, who pays for those chess sets that they give away after the last round? You, of course, or your parents, as part of the entry fee.

Easy solution:

Whenever you think a corporation or an organization is doing a poor job, or that you could do it better, then ... do it yourself.

"I can't" or whatever other form of the phrase may be chosen pretty much discredits your whole complaint, so ... get to it!

I look forward to playing in your low entry fee, guaranteed prize fund, all accommodations provided, broadcast open tournaments. Of course, neither I nor anyone else who is not a full time chess professional can guarantee to attend all, most, or even many of your tournaments, so with your constant high and always rising costs and essentially random income, I hope you stay in operation long enough for me to have a chance.

Good luck on your new endeavor.

I think it would be better to take the opportunity to thank all of the many individuals who sacrifice their own chess playing to help organize our events for us and who have to deal with all of the inevitable little imperfections that come along with all of that - especially for having to attend to the complaints about things you'd never even suspect were anywhere near the top of anyone's list of issues!

The Charlotte Chess Club (CCC) is one of the few big tournament hosts that always provide boards and clocks, and that is only because they are mainly located in the NC region. They provide all the accommodations and broadcasts top boards onto chess.com and lichess. Many top players and streamers often join their tournaments such as naroditsky, james canty, botez sisters, etc. If you're looking for a tournament that meets most of your needs, this is probably your closest bet. The only downside is that they usually only host tournaments in NC but I would highly recommend flying in on some of the bigger tournaments they host.

Local organizers in Northern California typically provide boards and pieces, sometimes even clocks. I am sure many other places around the country do too.

What is the difference? Transportation and storage costs are at a minimum when the TD brings the equipment in the trunk of his car. I don't believe New York City, Chicago, Dallas, Orlando and Los Angeles are considered driving distance by most people.
