See, in the rules, once a spell is used it always goes under a lock, which means it cannot be used again for another few moves. In this case, your freeze power was locked for 3 moves.

Even if weren't in cooldown, it's a bug. You should be able to freeze a defending piece (remove the defender) and capture a hanging piece while in check, but the mechanics are programmed in such a way that this maneuver is illegal
