Why isn’t there an archer peice?

I was thinking wouldn’t a archer chess piece be cool.

maybe if it's moves are like king but its capture range is like queen

Actually, this piece is an existing fairy piece that is not here in chess.com. it moves like a wazir (over square orthogonally) but captures, without moving to the victim's square, like a bishop.

well, most people think 20 fairy pieces on chess.com is already too many, since a lot of them barely get used at all.

Also, bsrti, that's your cue to write 10-page long shogi lecture about cannons and stuff

I do like, but there are many fairy pieces already, how will we add all existing pieces(and others to be invented later...)

If a variant with a certain piece becomes viral on a website then probably others will add it too, bit at beginning it must have an own website or be played in the forums, just like 8pc is growing (though we didn't reach the stage of becoming viral and bring put in more sites)

how about this instead of the only thing different in the game be the archer what if we had like other pieces like dragon maybe 

I don't see reasons for not to add KB and KR since they are more normal pieces. I can only think of a single con: there are no more letters for them. Maybe: using x which is used for wall currently, and using spaces for walls in the FEN. The other would just take U, which is the only current vacant letter here. But as i mentioned already, if you have a variant with many custom pieces, first stay a few forum games, then go with a club, then start developing things, eventually making a website and/or app, and wait until it goes viral. And if it does not or at least it's not put in a few other variant sites, you can always share it with other variant lovers inclusively on sites who miss the variant to show your website(or app)
